yes rinsing, rinse your plates off before putting them in the other bowl otherwise you'll have dirty washing water before you have started washing them.

you have a russian screwdriver set?

    lol nice edit

it only means u have something else to clean! go for a 1 bowl

If you have a dishwasher then I would say go for one bowl.

you need the extra 1/2 bowl to empty the stray half-full coffee cup that always appears after you've filled the sink with lovely clean water.

    Supermod

Tipping away excess drinks when you have a sink full of washing up.
