EXPIRED: help!! connecting my case wires to the motherboard

Found 13th Mar 2010
my case is a ezcool h-770, and the motherboard is a asrock 4coredual vsta. Ive connected most of the wires however there's 3 wires remaining, i think they are speaker wires.the 3 wires are:
WIRE 1 WIRE 2 WIRE 3
(1) Vcc (2) Vcc (3) Vcc
(1) -D (2) -D (3) -D
(1)+D (2)+D (3)+D
(1) Ground (2) Ground (3) Ground

Each wire has 4pins 3x4pins=12pins, however, i only have 4pins remaining on my front panel header. Ive read the Manual many times, and i cannot find anywhere on the manual where it says -D, +D or vcc. is there any other possible names it could be for these wires? and do i need to use all these wires?

i will post a picture of my system panel header, thanks!

Hmm a picture of the cables your describing could be useful... it sounds like your describing USB cables which will needed to be inserted into the USB headers on the motherboard..

Do you have any USB slots on the front of your case?? (EDIT: Just googled and you have 3 USB slots - it most likely is them, but please don't tale my word.. picture is required)

they are usb connectors,VCC means 5 volt ,look for More on your mobo,

Well can you not just tell us what works on the case? They might not even … Well can you not just tell us what works on the case? They might not even be needed, if the buttons, usb and sound work then just leave them.

ok ill try that once i get my atx wire to stop touching the heatsink and i think those wires are for the usb ports on the front of the case

If it's the internal speaker... just leave it.

If its a usb header block, it should have an end pin on one row blocked off, so can only go on one way?

USB connector is alot more pins than that, with one empty pin at the end.

No your half right but i think I've worked it out!

They are individual USB connectors - not doubles as you usually find.

On the motherboard you should see a usb header block of connectors that look like this...

x x x x {}

If we number pins like this...
12345
x x x x {}
678910

One cable goes from 1 to 4, and the other from 6 to 9

From memory, VCC+ should goto pins 1 and 6 (so the writing on the cable faces toward the row 1-5 in both cases.

(So missing pin 5 and pin 10 should be unused)

Note: this is educated guesswork, so dont blame me if you blown summut up

The third cable may be a firewire plug if your case has firewire??? if it is - dont bother with it, firewire is for homosexuals only.

If its another usb header, connect to 1-5 on another usb header block on the motherboard if it has one.

What did you do prior to it blowing? I'd have thought if you connected the USBs, you'd only blow out the usb block rather than the whole board....

Was it booting before?

fair point.

id say its fairly hard to make a mobo smoke itself...

no i didn't connect the usb first because it should work without it i think,. i just connected it to the mains and switched the button on located near the psu, and then it started, the heat-sink fan was spinning, but then it made a noise like somethings getting electrocuted, the sound came from the psu. anyway i turned it off, and tried it again, it turned on for a few seconds and then it died and a smell started to com from the cpu, so i don't no whats wrong with it, but i think the power supply is gone, need a new one i think, that power supply was new tho, everything was new except the cpu......................dont no what to do now

thanks! and this is my first p.c i built, so i didnt know how important the psu was, until now and ill probly buy the one you have since its got good reviews:),
and i checked the cpu and motherboard, they seem okay, the smell is coming from the psu, because i took the whole thing out, and the smell was coming from the psu, thanks for all your help:thumbsup:
