Fake SSD bought on ebay

Before you all start laughing - Yes I fell for a con. To be fair I was half asleep at the time, and didn't bother to check what the normal price was elsewhere.

Anyway, I unwittingly (inb4 someone says that's open to debate) purchased a Kingston 60gb SSD. It arrived very quickly, and once I'd installed it in my Computer with Windows 7 it was faster than my mechanical drive.

Read speeds are around 200 but write is around 70. Now, as I understand it it's the read speeds that are important with regards to stuff opening fast.

I've opened a return case with ebay and already printed of the labels so I can send it back...

...however my pc only has a sata2 interface, so even a genuine drive will only have a read speed of around 230 mb/s

Advice please...

What was the point in explaining about the whole ebay case? why not just post the question?

cos asking questions in misc sends us elsewhere ;-)
I dont even understand what the question is. How do you know it's a fake drive ?
so I don't get the question how do u know it's fake seems be working fine if they supposed be around 230 and it's 200 it doesn't suggest it's fake.
OP - item number?

271985852664 is the not magic number. :((
To repeat the important question - why do you think it's fake? Because that item number certainly suggests otherwise.

Polite advice would be to rephrase the question.

Surely these are the ones that were 'fake' to begin with ?
still don't think it should be that slow
Chinese seller so highly likely to be fake. Returns to China will be a nightmare, customs will likely confiscate it. Fingers crossed ebay refund you first.

Fair enough. I suspect the seller may not make a huge fuss if they genuinely know it to be fake, considering that they have so much positive feedback, and you haven't actually said what the problem you have with returning it is.
There doesn't seem to be many negs (2) in the last 6 months for the same item, getting on for 2000 sold in total?
Gordon Bennet - you lot are better than ebay!! They didn't even ask for evidence!

Bear with me. I'll upload pics soon

Does this prove my SSD is a fake?

I'm pretty sure that genuine SSD made by Kingston don't have those stickers on the back.
The additional info seems legit

The underside of your SSD matches the genuine one on the video you posted.
It has the same number of holes plus the little notch on the right edge. Additionally the SATA interface bracket clearly matches the genuine drive.

I believe Genuine Kingston show the Capacity on the front! Mine didn't

Feel free to google for pics of the real ones

I wouldn't get too distracted by the sticker. The seller may have added it to identify tampering, it could also indicate that it's a manufacturer certified refurb (these are ancient SSD drives). I reckon it's a genuine drive and your computer is having issues running it at fully advertised speeds. Does the official Kingston Toolbox software recognise it?

Like I said before surely the point is a genuine Kingston drive dose not run at the advertised speeds ?

well, this the Mech HDD on the same computer http://i.imgur.com/GL43qpr.png

This is the SSD on the same computer: http://i.imgur.com/ZkUFUla.png

Both conected on a sata2 connection.

My pc may be old, but if my mech can write faster than a ssd then it proves it's a fake!

Why not just email Kingston with the serial number to check. I don't think it's a fake just based on what you've posted so far.
also, the thing wasn't even put together properly!

Ahh, the good ol' Samsung F2! That's a blast from the past
I honestly think it's genuine, here are loads of user benchmarks which highlight the atrocious write speeds on the V300

I didn't reply to your earlier question.

no is the answer. Kingston SSD Toolbox didn't recognise it.

'tis a fake
write speed is always crap on these drives - its the random writes that you buy it for not sequential
did you set it up as ahci?
