Fibre Broadband in new build property...

    Hi all,

Has anyone had any experience with getting Fibre installed in a new build property ?

I'm moving into a new place tomorrow, but as its a new build, the address is yet to be listed on the BT Wholesale Database.

Although my neighbour can get Fibre BB (upto 76mb), I'm only offered ADSL as "Fibre isnt yet available in my area" - even though I know it is.

There is a FTTC box at the end of the road & all my neighbours can get it (tested this by selecting their address when viewing the available packages online).

Does anyone know how to register with BT wholesale so I can order Fibre from the off ? I don't really want to order ADSL & await my details to be updated & then upgrade to fibre, as I'll then lose out on the half price for 12 months offers.

    Any assistance appreciated.

    Cheers

    Chris

Did you ask your neighbours how they went about getting it?

The only 2 I've spoken to so far have gone for ADSL (but they are not the most technically minded).

I mean if that's the only way to do it (sign up for ADSL, then "upgrade" at full price fibre when you are on the BT Wholesale list), then so be it - but its a bit of a pain & will cost twice as much, so I was just seeing if there was anyone in the know about these things.

    Thanks

This has been dealt with on the thinkbroadband forums.

I'd suggest you pop over and have a read - There are people on there who can sort out the issues with bt

I had the same problem. The problem is you can only upgrade to infinity once a phone line is connected. I had massive problems but eventually it got sorted. If you want the sainsbury vouchers you have to do it on line only. If you speak to BT make sure they put on your account that you wanted infinity but couldn't cause it was a new build and had to have basic first before upgrading.
Secondly make sure you neighbour has BT and not Virgin.
you can check if you can get infinity by going on to Web and looking for check infinity in my area.
    good luck.....

your address is fed via royal mail. either the house builder does this, usually only when the whole development is finished, or you can arrange yourself by calling royal mail. takes a few weeks bitnit will mean it will work better for you in the long run. Google registering New build address .

that link has the bit to tell them the new address and get it registered so it will show up on everyones lookup systems. All companies essentially buy the updates every so many weeks/months. I've been through the same thing as you.

I did this a few weeks ago to try & get on as many databases as possible. House is still not showing up on any address database online....

I did want to go with Plusnet to take advantage of the 9 month half price unlimited 80mb fibre - but they've said the offer wont be available if I go via ADSL, then upgrade, which is why I'm trying to sort out beforehand.

Unfortunately on all new builds you have to get a phone line connected first before upgrading . A stupid rule but once installed it can be upgraded 24 hours later so delay will only be short. just explain to Plusnet you want the deal on offer, explain situation and see what they say but make sure they update your account as to what you want otherwise they will screw you over.

I'll give it another go, nice one.

Hey, if your neighbours have fiber with BT and you cant and you can see a fiber cabinet and you have been it's not currently in your area then it means that they have met the capacity on the cabinet closest to you, open reach are currently working towards resolving this issue but it's not an easy fix, if you go to your mobile you might get it done quicker

Had a chat with Plusnet again. Ordered ADSL, they say that's the quickest way onto the bt wholesale database & I can order fibre as soon as I'm active.

Also asked about the offers & they confirmed I can either take the latest new customer fibre offer or one specific to upgrades, whichever is best at the time

Going to be 3 weeks before my line is installed though & 4 weeks before I have Internet lol !!

I'm off work for 2 weeks, so I'll only have to go into the office for 2 weeks in the interim (unless I get really friendly with the neighbours )

I'll be surprised if you get broadband in 4weeks,but hey if they say that, who am I to say different?
