Final Fantasy XV Spin-off Game “A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV” Will Be Available for Free in March

Remember the Final Fantasy XV spin-off game “A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV” for PS4 and Xbox One, that was released exclusive as a GameStop pre-order bonus?

The game will be made available for free on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store on March 1st, featuring a fairy tale told by King Regis to his young son Noctis, starring Regis himself, alongside Cid and Clarus and Weskham.

The game is a pixel-art side scroller, featuring the following:

Deep Combat System – Combos, counters, and Regis’ signature “Warp Strike” combine for lightning fast real-time combat that rewards fast reflexes and smart tactics.
Companions – Three distinct companions offer unique and new ways to attack as well as tailored super moves that deal massive damage.
Magic – Ignite the battlefield, freeze your enemies, or electrify your foes with Fire, Ice, and Lightning magic.
Summons – Call upon epic Astral entities to decimate your foes in jaw-dropping ways.
Incidentally, the press release we received from the European distributor Koch Media did not clearly mention whether the game will be free for everyone or just for those who purchased Final Fantasy XV.

While logic would suggest the latter, wording appears to indicate the former. In order to make sure, we contacted Square Enix for a clarification on this point, and we’ll keep you updated on this whenever we receive an answer.

Sounds great. Just bought the standard edition so missed this.

probably a stupid question but would it follow on from the events of ff15 (not played it so no spoilers please) or is it set within the same universe but wont spoil or refer to the proper game?

From the description, no. It is a fairy tale told by King Regis to Noxus, i imagine before the events of the main plot unfold.

If you want you could watch the FF XV film Kingsglaive (good action flick) before playing this.
