hey guys

quick question seeing as all these amazon stick deals are going on.

whats the main differences between a android box and the amazon fire stick? Ive got a android box which is being delivered, got a chromecast dongle so just wondering if a fire stick is worth having?

I've got the box and chromecast too, think the fire stick may be much. unless there's something the stick can do that the other 2 can't, I'd stay stick with what you have.
unless it's one for each room :-)

I've been wondering the same thing. I also have a chromecast and an android box on the way. The Fire TV stick looks to be a cracking bit of kit in terms of spec but it is very much aimed at Amazon entertainment systems so the general consensus (from what I've read) is unless you have Prime it's nothing special. I will stand corrected if wrong but I don't believe you can cast from showbox and such like for example. I'm still reading around about them but I don't think I'll be buying one

Is XBMC and kodi two very different entities? I thought XBMC was merged to become kodi.

Plus I've been a long term android user so that helps. Just wanted to know if fire stick offers something really different. I can get kodi, showbox, HD cinema etc on Android so no real reason for the fire stick. Just didn't want to miss out on the deal.

XBMC is now Kodi, same program, different name. I'd go for an Android box. Fire OS is too limited and I'd need USB ports and an Ethernet

Like what? All a Fire Stick is is a device running Android. If you need something and Android has it, this will too.

Errr not really, Amazon use their own forked version of Android hence controls and limits what you can and can't do with the fire stick. I'm aware you can install kodi on the fire stick but how long can we gurantee that amazon won't close that up?.

Buy an android box and root it, you won't have any limitations.
I use one myself.

Fire Stick:
Cheaper, great kit for streaming HD movies,netflix,amazon prime,etc ; will run most apps and Kodi/XBMC ; size just more than an usb stick,waranty by amazon;
Cons: No ethernet,no storage, need to learn to sideload apps, need bluetooth mouse or run remote mouse app with mobile/ipad, using apps like showbox can be a pain

Android Box
can run almost all apps incluidng netflix and nowtv,Kodi/XBMC; will need to buy air mouse to navigate; good storage possible and expandable with SD Card; can run on wifi and ethernet (useful if your wifi is slow)
Cons: More expensive (at least 3 times the price of equivalent kit), some breakdown after 2-3 months, will suffer with HD unless a good box; bigger although not too big in size.

Really depends on your needs. Most people who use KODI find less need to use other movie and sports apps like showbox, etc
