    First Direct Banking

Thinking about switching to using these guys, anyone got any experience with them?

It all seems so positive online but i'm not sure how'd feel about not having a local branch.

Your local is any HSBC branch. I've been with them 15 yrs and wouldn't change. they're fantastic for me.

I changed banks from Lloyds TSB to First Direct about 18 months ago and they have been brilliant. They switched all my DD’s over with no hassle. It’s great to pick up the phone and just get straight though to a person who can help you with anything at any time of the day or night, and without putting you through to various different departments. I phoned one Sunday night turned 11pm to cancel a DD that was going through the next morning and it was no problem. I know there is no branch as such put you have got full use of HSBC branches and it is just as quick, i.e. if you pay money in over a HSBC counter it will instantly show in your account. And as a bonus we got £100 for switching.

I've also been with them for a long time, and they're truely fantastic. Can't say anything bad about them

    Cheers guys.

What sort of debit card do you get? Visa? Visa Electron? And do you get paper statements?

Ditto... Have read bad reports but my personal experience is good.

I would add that if you choose to use the text statement service ensure that you keep your mobile number up to date, I got someone else's when Vodafone gave me a recycled number... all very detailed! (Finance-envy that day lol)

I have a Maestro card, I don't get paper statements, but that is through choice.

Right, this has all been sparked by my current bank wanting £28 for me going £2 over my overdraft.

Think i'll try and push to get that back then switch to First Direct. Planning on keeping a decent balance in there to avoid the £10 monthly charge.

Been with them since early 90s. great customer service  answer your questions & solve problems with little hassle. Nice and friendly to speak to. Their accounts may not be the best value nowadays but service compensates for that. You normal get a free £250 overdraft and possibly get £100 for opening a 1st account.

Still the case. I'm filling out the app form now.

I just joined them last month, filled in the forms online, and they then send out a prefilled in form, really easy to do, open up current account and savings at the same time, so really easy to transfer between them.

Also get £100 after 3 months (think you have to put £1500 a month for this).

I've still yet to hear a bad thing about them - and lets face it, for a bank, thats unheard of!

Been using them since 1992. Can't fault them.
