First mobile phone for son - any recommendations pls

Anyone have any ideas what is a reasonably cool phone to buy that is not too expensive. Would prefer it to be pay as you go, appreciate info on tariffs and how they work as well on payg as I have always been on contract.
Ideally like a camera and a couple of games on it. Son is only 11 so does not have to be too flash but wont want it to look like a brick!!!!!!!

i got an 11 year old boy too he has got a sony ericcson w300i little flip phone got bluetooth walkman radio camera etc etc he finds it easy to use and they quite cheap now i got his from sainsburys quite a while ago

Go for a samsung Solid it lives up to its name. Knowing how rough and tumble an 11 year old lad can be! Its water proof, drop proof and easy to use, o2 do some good payg tarrifs too. Its a candy bar design so no hinges (as with clam shell style) or sliders to be broken, it also has a camera couple of games and fm radio. Good solid phone!

Well. I was going to suggest Nokia. Always been easy and simple to use, and are usually more durable.

Says it all though. 3 different posts and 3 different manufacturers recommended. Everyone has their own tastes and opinions.

My son is 10 and he choose this one for easter from argos argos.co.uk/sta…htm
It's on the orange network which benefits us with orange wednesday it has a camera, bluetooth and a few games not sure which, a mp3 player and a radio. It is just under £40 so we thouhgt it was a good buy and he thinks its great. Good luck

Just make sure its on PAYG as if he has no credit he cant run up a bill

Get him an i-phone, he'll be the envy of all his mates, and will have the choice of the best "skirt" in his school.

Don't do it !! he will probably loose it or get beaten up for it.

If you must get one, get an old one that no-one else would want.

I agree with thesaint, when i was in school i would have loved for my mum to buy me the best ever phone, i would have looked awesome.

I heard some of the Vertu phones are nice...

    iPhone for school rofl.

Cheap and gadgety is the way to go.
Mind when i started high school it was the Nokia 3210, then i went onto a 3310.
Built like a rock, and dropped them outa upstairs windows and still worked.

Nowadays i would think any of the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones.
Maybe k800/810/850. K800's are like like what £50/60 now.
Great for music, bluetoothing videos, takin photos, about anything he'l need it for.

    Edited for reply.

    That W200 hasnt got Bluetooth.
So tbh i would think thats a no-go straight away.

Unlikely an 11 year old would run up any kind of bill on a contract. It's when they get interested in the opposite sex that phone bills start mounting up. This is from bitter experience.

Oh how he would love one of those, think his older brother would be first to beat him up for it.

Cant go wrong with a Samsung D600, will be very cheap now and can withstand anything (within reason).

most of the kids round our way go for sony ericcson or samsung I have 4 kids who have gone through a great selection of phones and the boys have both settled with the SE's and the girls with samsungs, the best lasting one my boys have both had are the W810i it has everything the kids need and want i think (i'm part of a youth club and this is the most common one) the girls have gone with samsungs, Although all of the phones listed in above posts are excellent phones for the age range and abbilities you are looking for x

You can stick a 4Gb MS Pro Duo in them as well, was a deal on here for one, so its like a 4Gb walkman + phone.
Had a W800 for my old phone, and it had better music features than the K800 i got to replace it.

Great phones for kids, or big kids like me lol.
