You are thinking about a cooker, not a hob. It takes a bit longer than 30 seconds for a hob, you gotta do a soundness test, fit the hob and adjust the pipework for connection including a gas valve. I am about as cheap as they come and charge £60, most charge a bt more. Even with a cooker you still need to test the gas supply and then fit a bayonet hose to the cooker. I think 30 seconds is an exaggeration.

    And the difference is?

A cooker requires a backplate elbow, baynet connection, hose and chain. A hob requires a solid pipe connection and a gas valve. Cookers are simpler process than a hob although neither is all that complicated.

A hob requires soldering while a cooker doesnt if the bayonet connection is already present (which it normally is).

A cooker normally takes me about 30 minutes to complete to my satisfaction, while a hob can take upto 2 hours, although normally it's about an hour.

Sounds like there's a volunteer and he knows what he's speaking about it seems

wv sounds like wolverhampton and too far from me, I am a corgi registered gas installer and would help him out if I lived close.. As he's only got the option of picking someone out at random from the yellow pages or something he's not in a great position for not getting a bumming. Worst case he shouldn't have to pay more than £100.

You are too far away buddy.

I have pmed you with what the installer should do while he is fitting the hob, so you know he is genuine and doing the job properly.
