    Fitting Laminate Flooring

we are getting laminate flooring in our dining room which is 3.37m x 4.36m and not too many obsticles to fit around.

is laminate easy to fit or get somebody in?

havnt really done many DIY projects in the past as this is my first house.

Easy to fit the centre section, but edges, corners and doors not so

Get in a joiner every time

Nothing looks worse than badly laid floors

nah it is easy then you think, just make sure you have good tools for the job, i.e good jigsaw..

I think you can do it yourself. Just watch some clip in youtube and buy some 'click' type laminate floor.

    just found the website mybuilder.com

posted the job and going to get some quotes first, if its a case off the odd £100 to be fitted then may aswell get someone in.

floors2go had a flooring kit including a jigsaw for only £20 though, which was very tempting.

It's easy peasy - the only hard bit i would say is at the doors ( and if you take the door of it's hinges a monkey could lay laminate )

I've laminated about 3 houses now. Homemade also do a nice wee kit with a plastic block to tap in any stubborn ones, a metal bar with 2 lips to pull in the edges and about 20 spacers to keep the laminate away from the edge

Remember you have to leave a gap from the wall about a finger width so you jigsaw skills don't have to be great cos a bit of beading goes on at the end to cover the gap

Agree with the above - it really is so easy.

it helps if you can remove your skirting easily, this way you can cut it with a gap all round which is required anyway then cover it with the skirting when it goes back. Round doors is tricky especially with click together because you have to get these cuts fairly good. You can buy a cheap profiling tool in the cheap shops which will help. Dont forget to stagger the end joints across the room.
If it is cheap laminate then have a go, it will need replacing in a few years anyway if well used, if it is expensive stuff, get a fitter in. Nothing worse than looking at that duff cut you made for ten years or more.

Take your skirting boards off otherwise you have to have that beading around the edges and it looks cheap.

i just did our living room. all i can say make sure you leave a gap between the walls an the lamenate floor. and also do buy a laminate tool kit, which i got from b&q for like 8 pounds, couldnt do it without it. from there it is really simple. just take your time. I never did it before but was able to complete within 1 day.

i did lift off my skirting, and had very good concrete floor to lay it on. also make sure you have underlay, not always the expensive being the best, but at least to stop any damp from comming upwards.

i cant wait to do our hallway. also you will feel proud of it once finished

i used just an ordainary saw. laminate is really easy to cut.

just been quoted £120 to fit my flooring.

cant say fairer than that really, and saves me buying tools etc.

Ask the joiner for a price to lay your loft boards too ... following on from your other recent posting

you dont need one of these, all you have to do is use an off cut of laminate as a guide lay a good handsaw flat on it and saw into the bottom of the door architrave, this gives the exact cut size for the thickness of the laminate, fitted loads of laminate and allways use this megbod
