ok thanks. will give it a go.

Yes the higher wattage rating only means that the brick is capable of supplying that much power. the xbox will still only draw as much as it needs.

yh i thought about that but doesnt that damage the chips and stuff on the motherboard?

i had the no video problem once, done the X-clamp fix and all was working after that. Try plugging the cables into the xbox as its opened up, with all the covers off and troubleshoot from there...worked for me.

yh its opened up right now. im cleaning the cpu and hpu from the old stuff and going to put the new thermal compound. i dont have the bolts and washers for the x clamp fix right now. do you think i can put the old x clamps back on after putting the new thermal paste?

i repaired a friend's xbox with the same problem using the xclamp fix. the point of the fix tho is that the xclamps don't provide the pressure you need to force a good connection now that the solider has degraded. you have to force it to overheat to repair the connection by slightly warping the board, and then bolt it as tight as possible to prevent future warping from the extremes in temperature. simply replacing the thermal compound won't be enough to keep it in a working condition for long. at most you might buy yourself a degree. you need to order the parts for the proper fix. you can get what you need at B&Q but it's cheaper to just order the kit online, i've discovered. in the mean time, do whatever you can to keep it cool, or don't play it. if you have to them like leave the case off and point a desk fan at full blast on it, that should do the trick till you get the parts.

ive done x clamp fixes before but that was for rrod problems. i might just wait then untill the x clamp kit comes and just check that it works in the meantime when i overheat it and put new paste on

yeah i did some research into it and confirmed that it is the same problem, just different contacts have become disconnected
