Flight stops, but plane doesn't change?!

    Hi there,
I am booking a flight which has a connection in Amsterdam, however on the last leg of the flight, it also says "this flight stops in Dammam" but yet there is no plane change/connection etc. I have flown a lot but never once seen this... Maybe I'm being dumb but what on earth does it mean?! I am presuming it's to let people off at Dammam, as there's a flight from Amsterdam to Dammam at the same time? Someone enlighten me!

Your username made me laugh - all your posts are questions and I can just imagine a fish trying to pass himself off as a human and asking questions about human life on the Internet, because on the Internet no one knows you're a fish.

    It's the perfect disguise!

As for the question, no idea sorry.

I once flew to Orlando from Belfast.

The plane had stopped prior to picking us up in Manchester or Glasgow (defo one of those two) and again on way back we were dropped off first... thought it was very strange. Bout a 30/70 (Belfast/other) split.

Granted that was maybe 10-12 years back but still find it bizarre. Surely a travel company would sell out the plane in either departure area? Only thinking was the Travel Agents raked it in so much they put on a split charter. Could be the same with yours...

I've seen this, mostly on internal flights within the US - where planes stop but nobody disembarks as such. Sometimes it's for refuelling. May I ask where you're flying from?

It looks like it's a stop to let people off presumably, as it appears the plane is at Dammam for 50 minutes having looked at Seat Guru. It's Bristol-Amsterdam-Kuwait. Oh well, as long as I don't have to get off and on again - I hate connections!

Singapore Airlines has a number of stopovers like that
    Example :
    Singapore - Munich - Manchester
they do that to fill the flights
As no single destination has enough demand

Every time I've went anywhere on the West Coast of the US, planes have stopped over in Philly, flying from Edinburgh or Glasgow (to US via London, Barcelona or Amsterdam). Philly is the air mail capital of the Americas so I guess that's why. Only ever changed planes there once.

Yeah, sounds more like people getting off, as you say, rather than refuelling - Dammam to Kuwait is a really short flight IIRC. Give the airline a call though, and see what they say. I'm curious myself now

On your shout haul (European) sector you will change aircraft but on the long haul ( outside of Europe in this case) you will stay on aircraft. There maybe a change of cabin crew or flight deck crew depending on airline. Unloading loading of cargo bags and passengers then the aircraft will continue on its journey. British airways does these tyre of flights in the Caribbean and also I know of one Middle East flight either the cabin or flight deck crew change during the stop then they continue to the final destination.

It can sometimes be because there is a need to change the crew.

I flew back from the Middle East years ago, the plane stopped in Vienna and Frankfurt, for people to join and disembark, didn't have to leave the plane at all.

Cheap fuelling stop in the Middle East. Pity there's no Clubcard points.

Thanks all - I checked and it's just a stop (but they couldn't tell me whether it was for people to get on, people to get off, change of crew or any reason at all), however no need to get off the plane and go through that palava!

Sounds like a tech stop for fuel. You may have to get off for 40 mins or so even if the airline tells you not. It depends on the local regulations regarding safety while refuelling.
