couldnt belive it when my old man booked a 6am flight but he had just joined MSE and was following all there tips etc, and ive got to be honest by flying so early we saved £40 a head (so thats £40 x 5) and we will be in spain by 9.10am so have the whole day there, Thanks for the reply's

ooo...and congrats on 1k posts in advance! haha

Yep, I've done a 6am Easyjet flight from Gatwick and 'slept' in the airport for the few hours beforehand. I can confirm that not only will things be open at that time, but there s quite a lot going on in the hours leading up to 6am too!

I actually think its better getting an early flight. Ok - maybe 8 would have been nicer!

But hey, you know you wont get stuck in traffic on the M25.

Shops will be open..... its not like they would want to miss any flight departures!

We were on a 7.50 flight last month and the main duty free and WH Smith was open - the other stores started opening at 6am like Boots, Ted Baker, etc.

you'll need to be at check-in by about 3am and no later than 4am.

We have flown from Gatwick at 6am before and will be doing so again in 3 weeks. Great fun with 2 kids! Lots of places open so not a problem and suprisingly busy. Just not nice having to get up at 2.30 am to get there! I jjust keep thinking that for the 2 weeks following that horrendously early morning I don't have to do a thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are staying in a hotel - all inclusive - so not even any cooking!

It does also depend on what terminal you're flying from- South will be opening but I went from the North at this time and had to wait for the departure lounge to open (around 4am if I remember!), the duty free was open from then but the other shops open around 04.00/05.00
In the south, the duty free doesn't close and the other shops open between 04.00 & 06.00
If anyone is planning a spot of Duty Free shopping, these vouchers (from the Baa Gatwick website may well come in handy...£5 off £50 etc..
