Football in pubs on foreign channels may be allowed

The advocate general has just given an opinion!

We could be watching premier league at 3pm every Saturday in pubs!

A lot of pubs already do this by buying the rights through private companies dealing with this such option, one of my brother in laws uncles works for a company that do this thing. 100% legal though obviously sky arn't to happy about it and are trying to fight it in the european courts.

Quite right. It appears that the advocate General is on the side of the pub. This also may mean we can get this in our homes too.

Would it be a good thing if you could go to your local and watch every game live for 'free'

Not sure whether this would kill attendances, most sky games on a Monday for instance have a noticeable drop in attendance. If it was the norm for every game to be on would you get used to going to the pub instead of the ground.

Pubs are dying a rapid painful death so I am sure this could be the lifeline they desperately need.

The problem is if everyone comes away from sky, they will stop pumping huge amounts of money into the game leaving us in a desperate state. What seems like a great idea from an overview may come back to haunt us in the long term.

Interesting, fed up of Sky charging a premium because they are the only ones supplying it, will be good to see if this is the case as it could see us actually watching our own games with more choice.

    woo hoo can't wait

I am sure Sky will still retain their rights to all the other games as many people will not be able to go to the pub because of children, money etc.

I am also pretty sure that you will still get the "die hards" who will go the live games. There is nothing like soaking up the match day atmopshere.

In this day and age we should be able to watch whichever team we support live on tv anyway.

I for one wouldn't mind paying a "reasonable" amount each week to watch my team live. It might trigger the clubs into dropping their gate prices then!;)

whos gonna pay them premiership wages if the ecj find this in "our" favor.....

interesting to see the outcome, common sense says it should be ruled in our favor but with the weight of Sky and the Premiership just entering into the first year of a 1.8 billion quid ,3 year deal........i think we already know the outcome!!!!:(

i had a pub and in 1994 sky fined me £6000 for showing football on foreign channels we settled on (out of court) £1000 fine and 12 months subscription (£12000) broke my bloody heart. great news for struggling pubs

Would that really be a bad thing. I don't think so.

I trust you will now be going after sky to recuperate the "blackmail" settlement.
