    FOREIGN BANK MACHINES

I'm going on holiday in a few weeks...this may sound like a stupid question to most but i'm confused lol. Does the bank machine only pay out cash in the currency of the country that you are in?

op: remember that ATM's are pre loaded with cash like vending machines and the notes are not printed in the ATM however the crisp notes could fool ya ;-)

if you're going to use your card abroad inform your bank! as they might cut you off thinking your card has been cloned.

Nationwide rates are not that bad, I used both my barclays and Nationwide in Hong Kong and not much in it but saved £'s with Nationwide as they didnt charge a fee.

    good idea yimmie

will put that to use myself -

I was in Natwest the other day paying in for a change and a woman wanted to withdraw some in euro's apparently they have cash machines inside main branches that pay more favourable exchange rates than the counter so the asssistant said anyway! (Blonde so he probably didnt fancy working out the conversions!!!)

third that! I used my barclasy debit and nationwide on the same day for two small purchases in Marrakech to check the difference for future use. The Barclays purchase worked out about £3 more :x Got myself a Nationwide credit card since then as a backup for abroad

when ive looked at my statements afte visiting foreign counties i have found that te nationwide exchange rate is on par with national rates and there will generally be a .01 difference in rates

this jan i was getting 1.91 in us dollars

unless you are going to spend thousands on one transaction then you are totally better off with a nationwide card

Hehehe that made me chuckle. Of course you can only get cash from the country you're in - they'd have to have huuuuuuuuge machines to store all the different types of cash!

Or maybe you thought they printed it in the machine?! :-D

if they do print it in machine,I want 1 them printers, anyone know any deals?

I never take cash with me on holiday anymore, i always use Nationwide Debit card, worked in every country i've been too (Hong Kong, Phillippines, Tanzania, Zambia, and all the euro countries) no probs and i've always got a better rate than those charged by exchange places in UK and no fees too!

Jut watch out for ATM's in africa, there are a lot of 'fake' or monitored ones. In the more dodgey countries / cities, always choose one with an armed guard by it in the uniform of the bank it is for. Always the safest option.
