    Found a dog.

I was waken by my mum this morning who informed me she has bought a dog in from the middle of the road and it is now caught in the blinds, i thought it was a joke but it was not. We now have a little shitzu prancing round our living room, no collar, it stinks of kennels i think.

We have rang the RSPCA but they told us to ring the council and so we rang them and they said they will be coming at some point today.

    eat it!

ring the local vets somebody may have reported him missing :s they can check if he has a microchip

Yeah I once found a dog walking round in circles in the middle of a dual carriageway....stopped and took it home, after phoning the RSPCA/PDSA , phoned the council and they asked if I could just keep it....well that wasnt an option...so they came out a few hours later.
Poor thing looked pretty bad, seemed an oldish dog with a bad limp :x dont know what happened to him.

he looks like he already has a home!! not in bad condition!

Don't take him to the council. Not yet, anyway. We sometimes get lost dogs up here, with there being a park near the house. Best thing to do is to make up a lead if you need to, and take the dog out for a walk around the local area. Take it via routes that might lead to or from local dog walking areas. The dog will be lost at the moment, but if you can take it to a route that it recognises, it will lead you straight to its home. It should get very excited when it finds its house. If no-one's in, take some paper and a pn with you so that you can drop a note through any possible owner's letterbox. They'll likely be out in the streets searching too, so the sooner you get outside, the better.

    Good luck with it.

looking at the dogs fur it looks like it has been clippered not that long ago so hope you find the owners

Not sure if I would have rang the council as I don't know what they do with strays.

Probably would have put up a few 'dog found' posters (and check local shop windows for lost dog ones) and checked with a vet to see if he/she had a chip.

yeah council are rubbish, take to the vets so they can check for chip, i would be devestated if i lost my scooby doo

that was what i was thinking but you never know the owners situation. it's been said in the papers that a lot of people are kicking out their animals due to the credit crunch :-( hope it's not the case for him/her

Council have been and he has no micro chip, my brother has taken him the park to see if he reacts to anything. They said we can keep it but if we don't find the owner in a few days we will give it to a family member or something.

That seems like great advice, only problem is if you bump into the owners whislt out they may think you've knicked their dog.

The owners are probaly out and about looking for him anyway and probably see you.

How about a sign outside your house, they may spend all day driving around the local area.

Also check out local newsagents in case they have put a missing ad in there.

We told the council that if they get in touch with them that we have it to give it them back, if we have gave it to a family member we lock our doors and deny everything.

It is a mystery though as he was just sitting in the middle of the road and cars had to slam on, so me mum called it over and it just ran right in the house.
