Free Broadband speed increase for Virgin Media Customers

Virgin Media increasing speeds for current customers at the moment. If youre on 60mbps, you'll be upgraded to 100mbps. if you're on 100mbps you'll be upgraded to 150mbps.

Did mine, and today I checked my account and the speed increase was ready and my bill was the same price. Hope it works for everyone

This is such a con, they say this and do this every year, yet a couple of months down the line approx february they will increase your bill with the same old excuse "we are increasing your bill by x amount to ensure we continue to bring you the best possible service".

I don't think they're expensive at all. I shop around every 12 months and nobody can offer me anything like my virgin package, no matter what the price.

I've been with them since they were called blueyonder so have a loyalty package.
I've got 2 x TIVO boxes (boxed up in the loft), top phone package plus free 0870 numbers and the 200Mbs BB service for £72 p/m
I enquired about getting rid of tivo boxes as I don't watch TV and can get Netflix through other devices but it didn't change the price so left them on the system.

Always call them up and refuse the price increase. I haven't had an increase in 3 years.

50 went to 70 at least 6 - closer to 9 months ago! I presume this is 70 MB to 100 MB?

That's a link from October 2015 mentioning the 50MB to 70MB and I managed to boost mine almost instantly from when it was announced.
The stupid? clever? thing from Virgins Point of View is that you had to manually 'boost' your speed via My Account; otherwise it stayed on 50MB. There definitely was no signing a new contract though contrary to what the above link mentioned.

I imagine we'll all get an email soon with a speed boost is on the way - OP? The last price increase was around May? this year, so must be too soon for another price increase

I have a banner displaying up 50mb to 70mb boost from last November on my virgin accouny and i am getting worst speed ever (1-3mb at peak time) from that time till now. They are keep changing the months and now they took it on coming November.

Just out of curiosity is there another supplier that can offer at least a guaranteed 20meg speed with phone line for much less than £30/month?

Also would I have to have to pay for a phone line to be installed as well if I switched?

That was last year, so clearly no boost from 50MB to 70MB

My upgrade was completed ages before my account was updated with that message. Just keep checking.

£37.99 a month here I pay for only 70mb broadband. It's just gone up from the £22.99 I was paying when I took the offer. But it is the very best.

Nothing on our account, there is still a banner telling me that our upgrade from 50mb to 70mb is complete so it looks like those on 70 might be missed out this time.

Looks like they're bringing out a new Superhub called the Hub 3.0 - looks nice in white.

YOU PAY TO UPGRADE THEIR SERVICE and they act as if it is them doing you the favour!

Mine has gone up from 50Mbps to 70 .. upload speed has also increased from 3Mbps to 5. It didn't do it automatically , I had to log into my account and click the upgrade box.I got a statement through a couple of days ago.. no increase.

guess it depends how much you use your landline but I wouldnt pay an extra £480 per year for talk anytime. You dont use the tivo boxes anyway. I have a tivo included in mine too with the L package although I barely use that either.

I download many gigs of data ( oO) daily and find 70mbps is blisteringly fast so not sure why anyone would want 200mbps. Worth thinking about maybe.

I just have a cheapo home mobile and use 3 mobile for calls and find a few quid a month is more than enough.

and dont forget to pay the line rental up front if you renegotiate a better deal as then that will tie up with your new 12 month contract (upfront saves about £45 a year). Pay the line rental saver AFTER you have started a new contract

​I pay 19.50 a month for the same package, what I did was got on the phone everytime there was a dip in speed and complained then I said I was leaving because of this matter and they sent an engineer round fitted all new wires and box and reduced my bill so was more than happy.

Got an increase speed a while back now for free up to 70mbps but not saying can do it again just now? Have to pay to get to 100 mbps

​Yes. 1-3MB on peak time and sometime no browsing speed at all. Virgin media CS have just excuses all the time. I have made more 100 complains in last 8 months.

Wasn't this announced last year, speeds have been increased over 2016. Virgin isn't expensive we get 150Mb for £22.25 should be £36 or more. We were on a discount ending at £26 and did the cancellation stupidly the guy called on an off day and I said if it wasn't going up we would stay he then offered the £22 couldn't believe it.

Honestly I just can't believe the things they do - it's just ridiculous

I pay for 70mb BB and I've never seen it below 73mb and if you think that's bad
I got a letter a few weeks back telling me today they are doing some work in my local area and expect a loss of service potentially up to 5pm - I couldn't believe it 7.29am (give or take a minute or so) bang... no network - so I start catching up on the stuff I downloaded in advance and damn Virgin grrrrrrr the network was back up before 8.30am

You just can't get the service these days


(yes Virgin hike the price a few quid after "increasing your speed" but a quick phonecall usually corrects most of the added increase)

Surprised the prices people are paying on here.
M TV, with 2 TiVo boxes, M phone and 200mbit broadband, total £44/month.
And yes, I do get 200mbit/sec off-peak.
I think if you expect to get full 200mbit/sec downloads at 6pm at night, you're a fool. There's congestion of servers and neighbours and everything inbetween to combat it. But you should be able to do multiple things which get you close to utilising all the 200mbit of bandwidth.

However, if you constantly get poor speeds - ring 150 and complain!
You'll get the month comp'd, and they'll raise a ticket to sort the issue.
Then every month, a 2 minute phone call will get you a £10-15 credit on your bill if the speeds are still slow.

I did that for 9 months until a new fibre branch was installed in my area and the speeds got nippy again.

Speeds are slow if the utilisation in the area you're connected to are high. They can see this at their end, and if it's over 30%, you'll get a refund with a simple ask.
Mine was at 80% at peak (!) and is now at <10%.

Just got the 50 -> 70 email this week and had to log on to activate it. Verified it on speedtest 72Mb/s download, 5Mb/s upload. Not been charged any extra so far.
