Free High Resolution Photos - where can I get them?

Firstly...........is it possible to download high res photos for free anywhere? I've googled it a few times but not been able to find the subjects that I want without paying for them. Incidently on eBay, various sellers have individual shots for sale but they are quite expensive. Where do they get them from? For example Moto GP pictures (without any watermarks). Most of the CD, DVD collections for sale on sBay are for 'Babes' but I very much doubt the res will be good enough to print decent photos up to A4 size.

Secondly....what res is needed for a high quality 9x6 and A4 size photo?

Any help would be welcomed. (All photos are for personal use and not for resale).

some flickr pro members have images that are 6mp or more, try a search there flickr.com/

I use sxc.hu/ for my royalty free stock photos.
You'll need to register (free) to see the photos in the full res.
All the photos on there are amateur or semi professional but they don't look amateur.

photos of what subjects ?
