Yeah my flight was cancelled once and I got flung into a raddisson.. That was actually the first time I'd used wifi (back in 2005). Was pretty fast too, I downloaded a movie at about 400kbs, sure beat paying for it over the pay to view system

if you look closely she not a man:w00t::w00t:

If I wanted to and could be bothered:

I could setup an Internet Wireless Access Point (Wifi WAP) that's totally unsecured.

I could then run several "fake" websites, including all the UK banks, popular email sites etc run locally next to the WAP but able to pass on traffic from outside on the internet, my "fake" site would subsequently capture all your passwords etc etc.

Then once I have a nice list of all these passwords, use it to run a massive simultaneous transfer of monies/cc charges etc etc at my beck and call and scarper...

Are most unsecure wifi signals run with fake capture sites like this? No

Is using an unsecure/unknown wifi signal the most stupid and ignorant thing you can do online? Yes.

lol no, just dont do any internet banking nearly no one actually does what you just described

agreed, WEP is just like closing your door but not bother to lock it.

    You should move to WPA-2

Mines WEP cos the DS can't handle WPA but I have MAC address filtering on so that covers my rear.

I think it does something funny with your spelling.

This isn't really very good although it will stop the casual guppy sitting a few houses up grabbing free access. Kind of like having a fake burgular alarm bell thingy - if your neighbour doens't have one the baddies will likely go there instead.

As far as security goes WEP can be broken in about 30 seconds nowadays with very easy to get software and a normal wireless network card in a laptop & as for MAC address filtering, think of it as a list of users your router allows onto your network like a bouncer at a club only the bouncer has never met me & I can just stick a name tag on that matches whats on your list then he'll let me in, it's not upto much.

If your DS can only do WEP though you don't have much choice I guess, just make sure any PC's on the network are well patched & protected.

    worto.

vixygwim... are you saying you can spoof a MAC and that gets you on a hotspot? interesting...
