Free kicks

during a recent match, a free kick was awarded. the familiar process happened, semi circle for the ball, line for the wall.
then the attacking player moved the ball back 2 or 3 yards.
surely the defenders should then be able to move forward of the line or the ref should have replaced the ball in the semi cicle
what do you think?

It doesn't matter
Should've used VAR for 2 minutes then moved the ball forward 2 or 3 yards.

Cause it does. It's easier to get the ball into the goal if the wall is further away
Technically it should have been m9ved back to the point of foul, but it happens a lot and players try and get every inch they can by picking the ball up pretending to clean it and putting it where they want. If the referee doesn't see it they carry on.

Not in every situation. Some players want the wall to jump over the ball and hit it hard and low. If the wall is to far this isn’t possible as the wall will land before the ball reaches them. Like this

If this wall was further away then they would’ve landed before the ball got to them
