NELSON town centre is to be transformed into a seaside resort in a bid to attract shoppers and families in the summer months.

Tons of sand will be imported along with palm trees to create an authentic manmade beach outside Admirals Market Place.

It is part of the Nelson-on-Sea project, which is the first major event to be funded by Nelson Town Council, since it was established last year

Nelson-on-Sea is being organised by market traders, but the town council has allocated £2,600 towards the scheme.

As well as the beach and palm trees there will be donkey rides for children, a Punch and Judy show and specially made Nelson rock on sale.

It will take place on Mondays and Thursdays between August 8 and 21.

these are great, we have one in st helens town centre with donkey rides and a merry go round thingy, its good fun for my three year old and a good change to chill out on deck chairs in the middle of the town lol
