Free TV License for people aged 75 and over

    tvlicensing.co.uk/che…ud3

Found this on the TV license website.

You need to apply for it as it not applied automatiically - but for a saving of £145.50 a year - its worth doing.

Hope it helps some people out there. Forward to your friends and family.

Especially now that rules have changed for iPlayer.

    --------------------------

What is an over 75 TV Licence

After your 75th birthday, you can get a free TV Licence. It covers you as well as anyone you live with.

Please remember that you don’t automatically get an over 75 TV Licence on your 75th birthday. You have to apply for one.

If you’re about to turn 75, please do not cancel your Direct Debit or any other payment for your TV Licence. Once we’ve sent you confirmation of your over 75 TV Licence, we’ll cancel your Direct Debit for you.

If we cancel your Direct Debit after your 75th birthday – and you end up overpaying – we will refund you for the difference.

I thought that this was common knowledge?

Oh well, thanks for the heads up OP

They should really update the title, it's not a "TV" license. You don't need a license to own a TV.

very nice of you 3 more years till my gran gets free telly

It’s best to notify the TV Licensing Authority; some time in advance.

My mother turned 74 in August, but my parents pay by monthly direct debit. I telephoned the TVLA, to arrange for the Licence to be placed in her name; with their last payment being due in January.

Then they chase the living life out of you. Send intimidating BBC paedophiles to your house to demand the payment. According to them you're not allowed a tv at all or any device which can show live tv. If you do then you must pay a licence, even though you may not be watching live tv.

I just don't answer the door when they come calling.

The only ones that go to court are the ones who talk to them and sign the form on the doorstep
Just shut the door on them ,they work on commission and will soon stop wasting time coming round

It lunchtime news said from today you need a tv licence to watch BBC iPlayer. Don't shoot the messenger X)

Plus the BBC said a few months ago that the over 75s could still pay if they wanted to as the BBC doesn't have much cash. They receive £3.5 Billion a year.

My dad 82 and dont apply for it, but he gets it free, when did this change that you have to now apply for it ?
