Posted 13th Feb
Over-18s can get a free simple will (or update an existing one) via the Cancer Research UK Free Will Service.

The service is available over the phone, online or face-to-face with your nearest participating solicitor. Find out more by following the link above or by phoning 0300 123 7733.

Quick stats:

Who’s it for? Over-18s.
When is it? All year.
Where is it available? Nationwide.
Donation asked for? Charity bequest hoped for.
Who writes the will? SRA-regulated solicitor or will-writing provider.
How the scheme works
You can either call to arrange a face-to-face appointment with one of the participating solicitors, write your will online with the help of a will-writing partner, or create the will over the phone (again with the assistance of a will-writing partner).

When your will is finished and signed, the solicitor or will-writing partner will invoice Cancer Research UK with a fee.

While the Cancer Research UK Free Will Service is free to you, most people who use the service leave a gift to Cancer Research UK.

Must be to other English because where I live we are the only scots in the village
Each September, Scottish residents can get a will through Will Relief Scotland, a partnership between solicitors and four charities specialising in development work and poverty relief overseas.
This is available in Scotland.

If you click on the link above and put in your postcode it will show you the nearest solicitors to you
A great offer from a great charity our Law firm has supported this for some time, remember if you can to leave something to them in your Will
This is not a criticism of the scheme. I used a similar scheme last year and the expectation was that, in return for the free will writing, which is done by a solicitor with proper advice, I should leave a modest gift to the charity in the will. Happy to do this. Also, if your estate is anything other than very simple, this service may not fit your needs. This was the case for myself and I paid a suitable surcharge over the value of the 'free' will to cover the extra work. All worked out well.
