depends on where the dish would go and ease of access to these rooms.

Why not DIY? Its easy to do in a standard installation.

(Please dont anyone call "dish installers", "engineers". Only sky muppets do that.)

argos have a fixed price dish installation - both single and twin LNB types

Don't know I'd rather pay a muppet to go on my slippery roof than risk my life up there, my life is worth more than a few quid

Guy in my work has his on his garden floor on an electronic motor which rotates and tilts it, so he says.

unable to do it diy i'm stuck in a wheelchair unfortunately,,,but i've got a local firm coming tomorrow of the CAI website for an estimate so don't want to pay over the odds,,,don't think its a hard install but when i spoke to the guy whilst arranging the estimate he seemed to allude cable costs could be an issue utilising all 8 feeds off the lnb,,,

Its called a motorised dish. It tracks the clark belt satellites.

I have two at the back of my house (1.2m dish and a 1m dish) as well as a sky only dish. The larger dishes (one floor mount, one above the roof) were fitted without any risk to life nor limb. The one above the roof is accessed from the flat roof. Alignment of motorised systems are one thing, but the actual installation was a doddle.

Have you any idea where neighbours dishes point to? (I assume you're just getting a sky/freeview only setup?

As has been asked, why do you need to have a Oct LNB with 2 lots of 3 and one of 2 connections? Seems overkill.

As I said first off, the price would depend on whether it was a standard install or not. If it were, then materials would be in the region:

Dish £25
Oct LNB £35 (maybe more!)
Cable £30

I wouldnt expect to pay more than £80 for labour for what you are having (which is obviously more work due to number of rooms to be connected.

Can I make a suggestion that you join a site called "mybuilder.com" and list the job giving as many details as possible. (Esp if you can say where the dish is going to be and has easy access - also access details for the rooms.) You should get several decent quotes. Certainly Id think it'd be cheaper than the local installer youve called - but you lose nothing in asking!

No use. This is not a standard install.

Why three to some of the rooms, most PVRs only use 2 feeds?

new freesat tvs and pvrs,,,might need a rethink,,,see what the estimate is i think,,,

I'm sure the installed would pop an octo LNB on if required....

OK. You dont need a feed for the the TV AND PVR - they will use the same one (using loopthrough) . If your PVR has duel tuners, then you would need 2 feeds.

None of my Freesat boxes have twin tuners. If I wanted to record something - I'd just use another box! I'm guessing a Quad LNB might be a better and cheaper option. You'll need to decide though at this stage what you think you need. (Changing the LNB and adding more cables at a later date will not be cheap! Best get it done once and right!)

I doubt that very much.

"yes sir, I don't mind giving you an LNB worth 10 times more than agreed and doing 3 times the work. When can I start?" :w00t:

it says on the argos thing that "extras" are payable direct to the installer - can't see it being a problem TBH as the only extra work is the cabling which shouldn't be a big deal for a pro installer (or DIYer!)

Sorting the cabling is the worst part IMHO. Putting a standard sky dish up is 20 minutes work - which Argos are charging you £80 for! At those rates, expect to pay a fortune for the Quad, extra cabling and extra work!

Agreed, they will charge full retail for a Quad LNB and cables, that could be very pricey.
