Freesat Help

Well i have freeview in my room but never get a good enough signal to watch anything. So i have seen this freesat and have a few questions

1)Will Freesat actually give me better quality?
2)I already have a sky dish but box is downstairs any way i can use the dish in my room?
3)What is best Freesat Box to get?

Thankyou Mike

1) depends on your TV - Freeview has a way better picture than freesat (you notice the difference on a 42" tv)

2)you can use a sky dish to run freesat

3)the humax is the best, but the bush HD one in argos is cheap and works ok

the channel list on freesat is poor compared to freeview -

unless you want the benefit og HD (which has limited content of freesat anyway) - I would spend my cash getting a better aerial set up fro my freeview, just to get better quality sd broadcast and better channel line up.

have you tried fitting a maast head amplifier to your aerial - made a big differnce to my freeview

Hope this helps!

Well i dont know anything about this?

At moment my freeview is run through my HDTV and i have an aerial lead hanging from my ceiling which i have had to connect another aerial lead too as it dosent reach my tv. Nowhere in our house can get a good quality pic on freeview now and again if weather is bad get better pic. What is this amplifier you are talking about? I know our aerial has booster if thats any good?

Whatever you do. Dont take the dish down and use it in your room. It'll stop working! :w00t:

Yes, you can use the dish. Unless you already have sky+, you might also need a new Quad LNB as well. Then its simply a case of running a cable from the dish to where ever you want the new freesat box.

have a look at this-
radioandtelly.co.uk/rec…tml

if the booster is on your aerial then its a mast head amplifier, if the booster is by your tv it may make the PQ worse

this is a mast head - it boosts the signal at sorce, before any interference is introduced
images.google.co.uk/img…3D1

have a good reead through these links - essentially check aerial is ok, and pointing in right direction, check leads etc for correct double sheilding

hope this helps

Cool

All you need is a cable, two F Clips (to connect the cable to the dish and to the receiver) and a drill to drill a hole anywhere it needs to go!

Hopeully its not too big a run. If its not, its a doddle to do.

HD on freeview yeah?[/QUOTE]

Yeah I wish!

was trying to say that on SD pictures, freeview is miles better that freesat or Sky,

On sky and freesat the PQ on SD is soft and very pixellated -

freeview can be too, but not as bad

these effects are really noticable on a big screen,

HD however is bloomin awesome! wish our government and media suppliers would hurry up and get freeview HD up and running or add some more channels to freesat,

I have a freeview and freesat HD set up on my plasma - so have the best of both worlds - but would love more HD content, without having to pay out a fortune to $ky tv to watch their advert infested repeats!:

Can you drill a hole in the wall? Thats the only part with any degree of difficulty!

Obviously I'm assuming you have ease of access to the dish and bedroom that'll be drilled!

Just make absolutely certain that the " f " connector at the dish is 100% watertight, either with the rubber type boot supplied, or better, with almagamating tape that is stretched over the f connection.

Thank you.

You just need to drill a hole through your wall as near to the receiver as is practicable, feed enough cable through from the outside in, leave about a metre of spare cable, then clip the cable in to situ up to your dish, following the path of existing cables, cut the cable leaving enough spare for a rain drip loop under the LNB, fit the " f " connector, waterproof with rubber boot or amalgamating tape.

Finally fit the "f" connector at the receiver end and just connect that to your receiver.

Job done.

I bought a Freesat reciever for my room due to my Freeview being too inconsistant and i've not been happier.

Miss the likes of Dave but HD does sort of make up for it.

Installation is a doddle if you're not afraid of heights and you already have a Sky dish in place.

Do you have to put some sort of silcone stuff on at dish end to stop condensation? Also does it just screw in the hole at dish end, Dont need to take anything apart?

Thanks for all help on this:thumbsup: Getting a local installer to do it for me only costing £25 so not too bad. Also can anyone recommend a good HD Freesat box? Not looking for one that records
