Freesat is different from the Sky FreeToView setup . You could buy a Freesat box from somewhere like Argos and plug it into the Sky cable , as both SKY & Freesat are beamed from the same satellite @28.2* .There is NO subscription for Freesat but I dont think you get all the same channels as Freeview .[through your TV ariel]
You can of course , buy a FTV card from Sky [about £19.50] and use your existing Sky box's. But again Sky dont give you same channels as Freeview , 1 or 2 are missing , Dave is one of them , but you get a few extra ones .
    Heres a summery :
Sky box using satellite dish = £20 FTV card
FreeSat box using the Sky dish = no card or subscription to buy .
Freeview using terestrial arial=no card or subscription .

If they have an aerial ( not arial or ariel ) they would probably be better off using Freeview, it has a better channel line up IMO.

I think a FTV card from sky will be the best option as they like the sky tv guides etc.

See answer to question "I already have Sky digital satellite equipment - what else do I need?"

Seems to have had a price hike - now £25

thanks ev1 ,well i went fort the sky cards.Just got off the phone .They were £20 each but their system crashed as payment was going through so they had to redo it so now have to wait 7 days for £60 refund

When you get your cards ,stick em in the recievers and give Sky a ring ,you have to quote the card number , they match this with the reciever and activate your card . I had to do this with mine .
