Freeview adaptor - help me please?!

    Hello everyone,

We have been looking (for quite a while now:-( ) for a 15in or so LCD that is wall mountable for our bedroom. My boyfriend wants to get a freeview one built in but my parents have had a lot of trouble with theirs crackling and jumping all the time (if you know what I mean?). A friend of mine has told me about a little box a bit bigger than a plug, that you can plug your ariel through and into a normal TV and this will give you Freeview. I think I've seen one but when I've just tried to find one I can't and I'm thinking I might have imagined the whole thing!

Anyone with any knowledge/information on this (how it works etc) at all as you see I haven't got a clue!!

    Thanks!

    Lisa :-D

Try your local comet store - mine were flogging these off for half that price. (discontinued line)

Note there is a couple of small issues with that particular Bush unit (google for reports)
    1. There is no RF loopthrough, so whilst connected you only get freeview, not analogue. To get analogue you will need to pull the RF plug (arial) out of the unit and back directly into your tv
    2. These units do tend to slow down and eventually lock up after switching to numerous channels. Solution is to reset by turning the power off and on. Some people have them powered through a timer switch so that they can turn them off for 15 minutes per day to reset (like at 4 o'clock in the morning)

There is this one that has been reduced to 39.99, until christmas, at maplin, and it swivels it should sit quite flush with the back of the LCD.

Does anyone know how they actually work? Does it need the main ariel leading into it (off the roof) - I really haven't got a clue!! Does it have to sit on top of the LCD, ie does it have to be visable to work?

Thanks everyone! Don't know what I did before I found this site!!

If there is a scart socket on the rear of the display, these sort of devices will not be visible. The only thing that goes into them is the aerial lead.

Thanks antonfrompreston! I can now pretend I know what I'm talking about!!

Plus you have an infra-red sensor visible so you can change channels remotely ;-)
