    Freeview Recorder

Just wondering from those 'in the know', which brands/models to avoid ? I definately want a Recorder and not Receiver.

I'm getting rid of Sky as I no longer have Sports or Movies. I hear that some are really noisy or unreliable. I don't own a HD TV, so thats not too important. I know some people swear-by Humax, but probably cannot afford one just yet.

    Thanks in advance...

WHY NOT - Stop your Sky subscription altogether. Keep your box just as it is, and you will get all the Freeview channels just as before. The box is yours, and so is the dish. You are already digital! Enjoy!!

Some channels are not included - such as Sky Sports News. However it is on Freeview.

Also, I don't have Sky+ , this is the reason I want a Freeview RECORDER.

No, I haven't got Sky+ either, but only you know what your own preferences are. I'm just happy not forking out to Sky for programmes we never did watch! Sorry I didn't help

We had a really poor freeview signal about 6 months ago - when I first considered it. Now we have an excellent freeview signal, so might aswell save £40 per month or so.

Also I cancelled my package before and DAVE was removed along with SSN. These are two channels I watch frequently...

    Thanks for trying though...

You will have to complete your contract (usually 12 months) The great thing is, when you say you want to end your contract, they offer you 4 months at £5 a month! Well, that is what has just happened with me.(without a new contract term) I didn't take it, but it is worth knowing. Then once you have finished, they want you back, so ply you with offers for a while...6 months at half price being one.

I've had the same Sky contract since 2000. Cancelled it loads of times, but eventually went back. However I will soon have another option via freeview...

    I would recommend the Humax.
Avoid the Goodmans / Grundig offerings. I had a Goodmans which developed a fault after the 1st week. Contacted Goodmans (Indian call-centre) who were unwilling to fix the fault.
