Freezing electronic equipment

This is going to sound weird but I need to freeze some of my electronic equipment to avoid contamination.

All my gear is at the student house, a few months ago I noticed these very small white things that looked like specks of dust, but they moved. Some kind of mite I guess. Anyway, every so often you see one crawling across the computer monitor or my PSP. So I am guessing more could still be inside the equipment.

To prevent transporting these organisms back to my home I am proposing to free my equipment for a few hours first in sealed clear plastic bags.

However, what I am worried about is condensation once I remove the items from the freezer. Whats the best way to prevent this? Should I do it on a cold day?

In b4 someone says stick them in the freezer alongside the fish and chips.

Have you thought about clearing your kit with a can of compressed air?

That wont be through enough.

Remove batteries before freezing.

Well.. I know you can put a Hard Drive in the freezer when it dies to try and give it some sort of boost or something? Maybe its the same thing, just wrap it in a freezer bag? Personally never would try it lol. Is there no spray you can buy to kill these mites?

Are you going to put yourself and all of your clothes and other possessions in the freezer too?

Why not just get some mite spray from your local hen/farm supplier and kill them. After all, critters can often survive extremely low temperatures. Household freezers are only maybe -20 degrees or so.

I have a bottle of that in the room. Is it ok to spray isopropyl alcohol dirrectly onto the insides of a pc?

I would go with the Isopropyl Alcohol.

If you really need to FREEZE your gear, use a vacuum bag (not the type you put in your hoover), suck all the air out or you will get ice crystals form and that will just knacker your kit.

The PC is about 5 years old now, so Ill give it a try if and if it doesnt turn on any more fair play. Ill backup all data and remove the battery first though.

pi**ed mites? they're the WORST

I'm not sure freezing is guaranteed to kill them off. Strip off, dangle your crotch in front of your stuff and hope they transfer to you.

If it's dry outside, it might be an idea to let nature do some work.

Organ-X Natural Desi-Dust is a 100% naturally derived formulation. It is non-toxic and very effective in the control of crawling insects including red mite, bed bugs, ants, fleas, spiders, as well as grain storage pests.

Desi-dust is a natural silicate powder derived from fossilised river algae, is eco-friendly and extracted under controlled conditions, so that pests can be effectively eliminated without using a toxic product.

Organ-X Natural Desi-Dust is particularly effective in the control of red mites and bed bugs.

The product is safe to use on and around all pets and animals.
For best results apply liberally to cracks, crevices and along the run of insects or directly to the animal.

Leave the powder undisturbed, however the unique properties of this formulation means that if the powder gets wet it will be just as effective when it becomes dry again.

WD40 Spray, it will kill them on contact and the oily residue that's left as it dries will make life uncomfortable for the other bugs and they will leave to find pastures new.
