    Fridge freezer help

The light in my fridge has suddenly gone and then the whole thing stopped working. I have changed the fuse in the plug this and it keeps blowing the fuse every time I open the door

Any ideas anyone - I can't really afford a new one at this time of year but I also stocked up the freezer yesterday :-(

ohhh nooo-have you removed the bulb? if not do if yes try replacing it? dunno why it should make a difference but worth a try?

First of all dont open the freezer door to keep checking its ok. It takes well over 24 hours for it to defrost when the door stays closed.

By the sound of things you need to check the light and make sure nothing is shorting out in there as this sounds to me like where the problem is. Especially if it works fine with the door shut and just blows the fuses when the door opens ie the light coming on.

If you cant find the problem with the light just tape up the switch on the light so it never comes on even when the door opens, until someone who knows about fridges can take a look at it. ;-)

I have left the freezer closed the whole time and have just tried taping the switch - seems to be doing the job for the moment. Thank you

Dad is on his way :-D

On the plus side it has just started snowing heavy here so I can always put everything in the garden

hi, if all else fails, phone up your local Iceland, i used to work for them, and we used to help people out when their freezers broke down by letting them store some stuff in the back up freezers, it`s gotta be worth a phone call,

ooo unlucky but if you are the same as here it was -11 outside last night, stuff will freeze in the garden.
comments are right about the switch system being at fault there is a short on there somewhere, so get dad to switch unit off at mains before he traces the wire or it's " bang" and roast dad for xmas.
don't just leave it taped up as a drop of water may short the exposed wire to the chassis and someone may get a belt, fuses are there to protect you.

I just had to buy a new fridge freezer last week so can sympathise with you, (5 kids, xmas and a new fridge freezer don't do much for the bank balance) mine just wouldn't go cold.

I know  but I would rather replace it now than it pack up completely over Christmas

have to say depending on budget its prob either a rusty switch or (sorry but has to be said) just a mouse chewed wire at back, not an expensive job to fix if if u know any decent sparkies.

I have check all the wires and I am pretty sure I don't have mice.

I am going to replace the switch and light unit tomorrow and if that doesn't work replace the whole thing. It does seem to be holding its own and has stayed on most of the afternoon

The thing is because the light is not working I am not sure whether it is working or not and then the kids have a habit of opening the door and just staring into it like there is something fasinating in there

Nothing along those lines on our freecycle site in any event though I have friends who have bagged some real bargains but they tend to live in cities whereas I am rural
