    Friend needs a job

My friends quit his job on friday and he needs a job asap

Hes was unemployed before for a while as he handed out his cv's to literally every shop in his area but because he hasnt kept his last 2 jobs for more than a month it could be against him

He wants to work in retail and hes wondering if there are any good ideas on how to make a cv stand out

My advice is don't bother with a CV - get an application form - all the info they want is on there.

Yeh i know but usually it says like reasons for leaving a job but he just didnt like them --- plus most of those apps you hand in never get given to the managers usually just left on the side

I agree with Becksdawe, get an application form, they dont care about all the info on the CV only certains stuff!

if your friend keeps leaving jobs he isnt showing that he is a reliable employee really and this will probably get him nowhere fast, i agree with the above go for the application form and add a cv if asked

Thats normally something they will ask you at the interview too, I deal with Staff inductions and go thru some of the forms we get in.... lie if you have to!
give it a week or so then ring and ask how the applications are proceeding...

This is the time to get some shop work, nearly all shops are wanting extra staff as approaching Xmas.If he worked in shops the previous times he quit, whats the difference going to work in another shop?

what high street shop is going to ask for a cv?
hes not work shy is he?

He should of thought about that before quitting, like getting a job in the pipeline beforehand.

well i agree with dandoc no 1 is willing to take on new people and DUMP the forms
also the thing when i try jobs is that you have to have worked in the last 6 months which for new people going for jobs is HARD if its their first job

Is he a similar age to you? If so he probably hasn't got much to put on a C.V anyway - and it won't really endear him to a potential employer, if he lists the jobs he has left. Nice of you to try and help, but i think he needs to pull himself together and smell the coffee - sorry

my friend quit his first job after 4 weeks too, his attitude was 'im too good for this job' and 'the wages are ****' but you have to start somewhere and any job is better than no job, i think hes just a lazy ****** (bug er) myself.

He worked in retail last christmas for 5 weeks but they didnt keep him on as they couldnt afford it in the budget to take him on permanent

Same age well hes older a little - left school last sep after like a month into a2 and wanted tto just start work
But took him 2 months to find anything and then after the christmas work he didnt really do much for like 3 months and then he got another job and then he did that for i think like 4 weeks but he seemed to be doing a lot for the money so he left - last 2 jobs were office work and he said he wants to get back into retail as he enjoyed his christmas work
so i thought id ask on here for any tips bcos im uselss when it comes to jobs too so i cnt help him

hes quite shy - doesnt leave the house much you know - so going into a shop and asking for an app is hard for him -- if he can apply online thats great but most jobs dont

Does look bad that he quit his last 2 jobs after 2 weeks and 3 weeks but hey if you dont like a job why stick at it you only live once plus hes only 18 so

Dandoc - if your "friend" wants some help with what to stick on these forms - I'll be happy to help him if you want to drop me a pm.

Well a lot of places will just be wanting the Xmas temps, but always worth applying and even if he gets a few mths work its better than nothing and he can look in meantime for something more fixed. Its easier to get a job while your still in a job.
Once you been out of work for 6mths or so,its way harder to get a job.

He said hes only got an argos app and its not exactly difficult - age -address previous employment and hours can work -- he says hes gunan go out 2morro and ask around but i know him and he wont - not because hes lazy or anything just nervous about leaving the house

Dandoc - the offer stands ok If he needs any help or advice - gimmie a shout.

People will be falling over themselves to employ you after you've done some time in the Armed forces, I left school with next to nowt and joined the army straight from school. The army trained me to drive everything from cars to lorrys and buses, give me an insight into telecoms (which is what I do now). When I left the army after 8 years I applied for 3 or 4 jobs and got offered them all.

Beware the promises of 'wise' corporals. The disadvantage of this brilliant scheme is that you will no doubt have shared your instruction with at least 1 other person and will have had very little or no actual road experience

Fair play if you do do the 22 years, but I got out just at the right time I reckon. I earn more now than I ever would of in the army and see alot more of my family. If your joining the RAF Regt it'll be a while by the time you got your licences, basic Training, Infantry Training, then it'll be up to your unit to get you your driving license(s). It took me 4 years to get my first one, (not cos I kept failing).
