FS/FT - How can you trust people? feedback doesn't mean you Won't get ripped off

I paid for an item on here 3 weeks ago. It was a wireless keyboard and mouse, I paid £11 for it.

hotukdeals.com/for…246

The guy in question had 69 Positive feedback, and 1 Negative. I got the guys number and address.

ASB banned him, Why ASB couldn't wait until he had resolved all trades before banning him I don't know. He could have just placed a full trading restriction on him to stop him ripping anyone else off and then banned him when I had my item or a refund.

Anyway I have tried phoning this guy on several occasions and he doesn't answer. He did reply to my txts though and even asked for my BT details so he could refund me... Never got that.

I was surprised because during his time on here he made some high value trades. I'm guessing he thought that because he was banned he Might as well keep my 11 quid. Which just makes him a real lowlife scumbag.

So how do you know when paying Several hundreds to someone such as this guy that they won't just do a runner?

ASB doesn't seem to bothered, but then I think thats him all over TBH.

Thing is I got his mobile and address, but with him having 69 positive it was so unlikely he would do this for 11 quid. If it was hundreds it would make the little thiefs time more worth well. The amount of money involved doesn't make sense

Next time get a landline number.
Sorry to hear you got scammed, you should try and follow it up with the police, there have been quite a few success stories of 'victims' getting justice from scammers, katlou1 being one of them.

the yard stick should be following the rules and doing your checks, but.... getting scammed , could happen.

as pointed out if you have a paper trail from here and your own emails etc call on the local police and report the offence

I've purchased about 4 items off HUKD, and only received 2.

Never again.

Not all sellers on here are bad, I've bought many an item and all have arrived, a better success rate than I have had on eBay!
Make sure you follow the rules (jonny didn't 100% follow the rules as he didn't get a landline number) and you dramatically cut the chance of being scammed.

Sickly sweet, are you telling me you get a landline number in every transaction. Even for a low fee like that against someone with such high feedback?

Thats right, not all sellers are bad. I for 1 am a good seller, every person I deal with gets a very quick delivery and fantastic comms, but there is bad and good in everything. Just glad it wasn't for a much bigger amount of cash.

I have only ever been asked for a phone number once before, lost £2ish to a seller months back, I can't remember the name but there were loads of people that got scammed.

Getting a landline number doesn't make it any better. I wonder how many people that ask for a landline number actually 'verify' it? If someone is going scam you they will do it anyway!

It seems the "member" had a few unresolved sales, if more people left feedback stating the problems then less people would get caught out, it is easy to rack up a load of feedback on here buying or selling cheap tat but people seem reluctant to leave negatives due to retaliatory negs

Suppose I just got unlucky. The annoying thing is I was trying to help the guy out in a way. Could have bought it new for 2 quid more, but he had one and really wanted to sell.

Don't know how people can live with themselves ripping people off. Oh well

I cant understand the logic behind it. if your going to build up a good reputation and decide you will do a runner with the next lots money, then do it for a high value product. not £11 ffs lol!!

this is probably the truest part tbh, '' I'm guessing he thought that because he was banned he Might as well keep my 11 quid''

I dont understand why the mods ban members when there is a clear trade issue ongoing.

This policy is just WRONG, i doubt if a mod was in the same situation as you, the member would have been banned

Makes it even harder to resolve the matter.

Surely it would be more constructive to not ban until the trade issue is resolved.

My point exactly Bob, like I said in my OP why not just impose a trade restriction until all trades are complete and then Ban him/her afterwards.

Just makes it a lot more likely that you won't see your money/item. I have no doubt if he hadn't been banned then I would have got my refund.

If you spent as much effort on verifying details as you did on this thread, you would have your money or the goods by now.

If "It's not worth it" is the answer, then STFU moaning about it.

Asb knows his stuff man. He was a big help in my last trade. There's only so much a mod can do thought, that's the risk off trading on here.

NEVER pay via Paypal Gift. There is no comeback, plain and simple. Pay the extra few pennies via normal Paypal (would have cost 59p on top of your initial £11) and you could have claimed it back if the item was not delivered.

Paid by BT, so no comeback there. Don't suppose my bank would entertain reversing the payment?

I think it has to be over 100 quid and must be a credit card I'm not sure though

Thats what I thought Marz, called a chargeback. Otherwise scammers would have a field day getting items and then claiming the money back.

Thought I'd ask though

We had given the member every opportunity to resolve, however we won't let the account remain if it's subject to a trade dispute and the member is refusing to comply with our directions to resolve.

If members follow all the trading rules, then it's less likely that a dispute will go unanswered as full details will have been verified beforehand, leaving either party with the option to resolve through applicable external means.

Leaving members on here purely to safeguard your own interest is not really acceptable either. Once it's known that issues are not being dealt with in the expected manner, we really can't leave them open to participate in the forums in any shape or form, perhaps putting other members at risk.

I understand that from your point of view, if a member is not completeing trades then it leaves other members at risk of being taken in, but by the same token it also leaves the current member in the disputed trade more open to not seeing their item/money again.

Like was pointed out earlier in this thread, if members left true feedback without having to worry about retailiatory feedback then it would expose people like this for what they really are. I have no doubt in my mind that this guy messed more people about along the way, looking at his feedback he was an exemplary fs/ft member. I feel this is far from the full story.

Is there no way that the feedback system can be changed to protecg buyers from retailiatory feedback? Most of the time bad feedback is going to be left for the seller as there isn't alot that buyers can do to have made the trade that bad that the seller would want to leave them bad feedback, or even an option of reply to bad feedback. Both these ideas are employed on Ebay and they work well.

And neither of them will be employed here. Its been discussed before and dismissed just as quickly. The FS forum is an afterthought, and a badly managed one at that. Everyone knows this, however it would seem that only a few people have the danglies big enough to say it.

Not really. You could call, email, personal visit or write a letter informing them of the dispute and your intent to recover. All those options should be available to any member if they follow the trading rules in full.

Feedback is optional, although it's preferred that members do leave this for all trades. There have been system limitations in the past, therefore it's not always a question of members not wanting to leave feedback. We do encourage it, however why some members feel the need to have a 100% positive trading record defeats me. It's not a barrier towards a trade being completed, merely a reference to a trade that went wrong. Members can review the thread and form their own opinion. I'd happily take a negative on a trade even if the only purpose was to redirect members towards the thread in question.

You should really back this up with a reference to the threads/issues in question as your statement is neither informative or helpful with regards to (hopefully) constructive criticism.
