Since we're all from different parts of the country, I thought it would be funny to hear the different slang and sayings you're accustomed to hearing.

Best and funniest sayings receive rep.

EDIT: it might also be a good idea if people explain what the word/saying means. lol

"your neck of the woods" - Ive never understood that one :whistling:

Where is the neck in woods?

we always say "alright monner" or "alright mon"

I'm in import to my area around Coventry and Leamington Spa. Moved here from Bournemouth 15yrs ago, via a 2 year stopover in London. The locals here have all manner of sayings. The one I always remember is BOSTIN' which apparently means GOOD.

AND before all Brummies have a moan at me, I know it's Black Country talk, but to a southerner it was funny.

"It'll not be long til a wee while"

"barry"=excellent

"spanner"=idiot

Ayup me duck

What's that mean?

I'm guessing "don't give a poo" but I bet I'm a million miles off. :roll:

Well the kids pretty much picked up my accent... ( private schooling ) so it's accentless in a way....

Then when they mix with their friends its very London/ Essex/ Romford-ish.

And then they have their Dad's accent too....

so they have quite a mix of external language influences.

Romford is a place in East London/West Essex, broad accent to my ears.... my daughters school is there. Long distance from us, but it's a nice school so they have to travel.
