Game Over? Steam region-locking games

tomshardware.co.uk/val…tml

So Steam are apparently region-locking games bought in cheaper countries - specifically Russia / CIS in response to the Ruble crisis.

I wonder if this will be fairly similar to now, with keys bought from economically poorer regions like India / Russia / South America being at some (even if small) risk of being revoked, or will this be the start of full region-locking, ending the option to buy keys from Amazon etc in the USA?

UPDATE: Keys bought in USA, Europe, UK have "no restriction"

There's absolutely no reason to do this apart from making more money. Good going Steam.

That's not the point. They are making a profit without the region lock. This is just **** on customers.

who says you didn't travel to russia etc on holiday and purchased the codes while out there? Are they going to stop youfrom playing those games, i think not.

I bought several games while i was living in Cyprus, i think that they will not be able to stop me playing those games and if they do im either going to be refunded for those games at the price i paid or i will be allowed to play those games.

Funny how all these company's go on about it being a global market, right up to the point where they might lose money...

Good, now is the time to actually stop buying games off Steam and start playing all the ones you got in cheap bundles

I see no issue with this due to the fact that the people who seem to come into mass amounts of these foreign codes and sell them to other people get them in very shady ways.
