looking to buy a new laptop and at this stage, can't decide between the following 2.

ASUS GL702ZC-GC098T ROG Strix 17.3-inch Gaming Laptop (Black) - (AMD 6-Core/12 Thread Ryzen 5 1600 Processor, FreeSync Display, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD, AMD RX 580 4GB Graphics, Win 10

or

ASUS GL702VM-GC137T ROG Strix 17.3-inch Full HD Gaming Laptop (Titanium) - (Intel Core i5-7300HQ, 8 GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Graphics, G-Sync, Windows 10)

they're similar pricewise, but i can't figure out which cpu-gpu combo is better between the ryzen - Amd and i5- gtx1060 .

any help appreciated

First one is much better. Ryzen 5 destroys that i5. The graphics cards in both are very similar at 1080p. 256GB is better than 128GB. I have a 1070 Strix laptop and they are literally half the depth of a similar MSI one. I'm sure you'll love either, but this time AMD beats Intel.

What if you swap the i5 for an i7 7700hq,still go for the rizen? Was reading up on the first one, and it seems to heat up a lot.
