Rockstar announces 'Max Payne 3'
Rockstar Games has announced that a third instalment in the Max Payne series is currently in the works.
Being developed by Rockstar Vancouver, the game will be released for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC at some point during winter 2009.
In the series, Max Payne is a retired New York City police detective who attempts to avenge his family's death in a world of corruption and violence.
Sam Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, said: "We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game."
He continued: "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever.
"We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."
Last year, Mark Wahlberg starred in a movie version of the game, which was directed by John Moore.

'Need For Speed: Shift' release dated
Electronic Arts has announced a release date for the latest instalment in the Need For Speed racing series.
Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers in the UK will be able to purchase Need For Speed: Shift from retailers on September 18 2009.
In the game, players will tackle a series of high-profile circuits in a variety of performance cars, such as the Porsche 911 GT2, Lotus Elise and Pagani Zonda.
Developed by Slightly Mad Studios, the title will focus on a simulator approach with real-world vehicle interiors and accurate race physics.
Patrick Soderlund, senior vice president at EA Games Europe, said the development team is attempting to deliver "something never before seen in a Need For Speed title".
"By focusing on the driver's experience through the first-person view, we are able to capture the high-speed intensity and gripping emotions of racing," he claimed.
This also forms part of a trio of new Need For Speed titles to be released this year, alongside Need For Speed: World Online on PC and Need For Speed: Nitro on the Wii and DS.

'Sherlock Holmes' heading to Xbox 360
Focus Home Interactive has announced that upcoming PC title Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper will also be released on Xbox 360.
Scheduled for launch during May 2009, Frogwares Studio is developing the PC adventure game which pits the famed detective against Britain's most notorious serial killer.
Paris-based studio Spiders Games is overseeing the Xbox 360 version, although a launch date for this has yet to be confirmed.
Featuring both third and first-person action, players will explore the back streets of London and piece together clues to solve a series of grisly murders.
Guy Ritchie is currently directing a new movie starring Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as his sidekick Watson

Eeeeh, about damn time. As a mate of mine pointed out a couple of years ago, it was totally wrong that they didn't produce Max Payne 3 after 2 came out. Yeah, it didn't sell well. But look at the reviews. They're nearly all glowing. Look at the following it acquired, too. People who played it thought it was great. The fact that not many people bought it isn't the developer's fault, it's the marketing company's. It wasn't the devs who should've stopped what they were doing and started trying other things.

But this is my 5am excitement, woot.
