Gaming pc

Looking at getting my 8 year old a gaming pc and wondering what’s a good starter pc for up to £800 no need for the extras so £800 on a tower itself. He’s got a psvr so won’t be needing vr and also won’t need 4K although that’d be a bonus but mostly it’ll be games that the YouTubers play so not crazy high spec games

Always listen to randoms on the internet. That's what my wee gran used to say.
I cannot believe that people are actually giving advice on what to buy.....he's eight years old for heavens sake, spending that sort of money on gaming equipment ?? Really.....but the boy books and instruments of learning otherwise he might end up like all the other useless teenagers of today, no job, no prospects and brain dead.

He’s got Aspergers and does well with computers and they help him a lot should I just buy him toys he’ll never use instead and obviously others In the house will use it and if I don’t spend enough in a year or 2 it’ll be too out of date. Why comment when you know nothing, people are giving advice simply on beat pc for £800.

You bring your kids up how you see fit and let @toonsquirel raise his how he wants, a PC will come in handy for way more than gaming, he can if he chooses read books online or learn instruments.

You don’t have to justify to online keyboard warriors or cretins.

£800 will get you a reasonable machine. If you must buy now then your probably topping out at a GTX1060 6GB based machine.

Not gone for best or worst of anything. uk.pcpartpicker.com/lis…zhy @ £760
Room to add extra storage. Get cheaper graphics from Amazon Warehouse. Windows crops up here for about £10-15 frequently.

The point of Ryzen is it’s close enough for gaming to Intel. Big advantage is creativity wise it’s ahead. Especially if he wants to stream and game. (To match his YouTube viewing habits)

Cheers, he reckons he wants to stream and learn to code but no idea if he can do that by himself he learned how to play the piano from YouTube though so it’s possible(he saw a piano and asked if he could have a go and I was expecting him to pee about and he just played the game of thrones theme on it pretty well and that was first time with a real one, all he’d done is downloaded a piano app on his phone and learned on there through YouTube in secret) . It’s for Christmas so in no hurry but don’t like waiting til last minute either. I’m still getting clued up with computers I’m not clueless but last laptop I got an i5 thinking it would be ok and I didn’t look at what gen etc so it was rubbish so this time I wanna make sure it’s just right. Even the graphics cards seem to be the same where a newer 1050ti might be better than an older 1060 etc. I was into pc’s 20 years ago at college but things have changed so much since then and I’ve not kept up with it.

It's odd that an 8 year old kid even knows about coding, and honestly I wouldn't allow him/her to stream... You get bullies in chat and even the chance of perverts... far too young to be put in that world.

Not been a warrior of keyboards as someone said above, just protective when it comes to the country's future.

I totally agree. This gaming/You Tube crap is talking over a lot of people lives. I know some men 40+ that still live at home with their mom and just game in their free time. It's like WTF? Like some addiction that takes over their lives.

They don't socialise, date or even talk about getting their own place. Just happy to stay in their bedroom all night.

People are addicted to phones, video games ect and it's ruining society. I can't see things getting any better.

You've only to look at people on a train to find 80% are gazing into their hypnotic phones.

I can't believe the number of people who try to hand out parenting advise to strangers on the internet.

But yes you really shouldn't buy a computer and instead put that money towards instruments of learning. Nobody ever learned anything from a computer.

He doesn’t know about coding he’s just seen people so it on videos and thinks he could learn it, he just wants to have fun doing things with a computer and he might never do any of that stuff but if you understood Aspergers you’d realise that once they find something they like they can do well in that particular subject. I’m not worried about him been bullied I’ve got that sort of thing covered so don’t you’s worry and if he’s still living at home when he’s 40 I’ll apologise to you for letting him have a pc. Below is just a paragraph from an Aspergers web site.

Many people with Asperger syndrome have intense and highly-focused interests, often from a fairly young age. These can change over time or be lifelong, and can be anything from art or music, to trains or computers. An interest may sometimes be unusual. One person loved collecting rubbish, for example. With encouragement, the person developed an interest in recycling and the environment.

So as above it seems computers are his interest and he should be encouraged so he may excel

Or talk... talk to strangers/friends or family... look at people or a family out for a meal and most times they are glued to the phones rather than enjoying each others company.
Technology is one of the worst things to buy in advance and store, wait till late November or at least Black Friday.

I guess you never mentioned your child has Asperger's in your description and he needs this to focus on something. It simply looked like someone wanting to let their 8 year old kid game from an early age which isn't good if that's all they do for hours on end. Some parents are lazy and just let their kids play on these devices so they get an easy life themselves. My daughter plays ages on her iPad and it's so hard to get her off it and so frustrating as a parent to see her glued to the screen for hours on end. I sometimes wish I'd never bought it.

How is it a judgement? I'm talking from experience, just relax... I have 3 beautiful girls, the eldest is 11 and has a phone (her mum and dad's choice) she is glued to it even during a nice family meal...i don't mean a mcdonalds. This is getting a bit OTT in here, the op never mentioned any medical condition so the post just looked like someone paying 800 quid on a pc for an 8 year old.
