Gaming pc advice for a concerned dad.

Hi all, I have a question about a gaming PC my son is looking to buy from Gumtree.
    The ad states:
    128Gb ssd
    8gb ram
    internal Blu Ray drive
    gtx 750 graphics card
750w power supply all in a corsair case with internal led lighting.
    20 inch curved Samsung monitor.
    £350

Bearing in mind the last pc I owned had a voodoo 3 graphics card I'm a little out of touch.
I welcome and thank you for any and all comments.

worth clarifying the cpu as it's an expensive and important part

doesn't mention the CPU? the graphics card is ok, depends on what games are going to be played on it.

thanks, I will ask the seller.

i would not touch gumtree for a pc, no protection atall. The pc looks pretty weak for 350 imo

Some of the games my son wishes to play:
    cs go.
    palladin.
    rust.
    overwatch.

I would class this as a low end gaming pc, if he's looking to play the latest games this is highly doubtful to play them, you don't mention cpu or motherboard model, chances are its old and you wouldn't be able to upgrade it.
Ps4 or xb1 for less price

thanks Westy, we are both xb1 owners.

I don't think he did promote his self. He just stated his job title and said if He can offer help in that field feel free to ask him. In my option that's not self promotion oO

The 650ti belongs with your voodoo card, this is overpriced for old technology.

Not really. Not for any financial gain anyway. I read it as I'll offer advice in my field of expertise where I can if people need help in the 'community'. A slightly jumpy mod really.

I don't see it as any different to me offering advice as a spark.

I'm with you on this one grasssnake. You seem like a thoroughly decent chap !

He explained he was building a website and offered to put a system together for you and asked you to contact him. Yes, he's offering help, but he's offering to help via his business for financial gain ("I can put together a system for you"); unless I'm mistaken he would be selling this to you rather than giving it away. It's classed as self promotion (which is not allowed ever on HUKD) or using an Ask thread to sell items (rather than FS) which again is not allowed.

If you are unsure please read the Help / Code of Conduct / FS Guidelines

The message was removed then? The context was lost then by your message if the original was removed. Your response suggested it was referencing the chap who said he was an electrician.

I didn't ask him to contact me, I offered help. I also said to him I'd help him build it himself so him and his son could do it together? that is zero financial gain. I didn't give a website (and wouldn't have) as it isn't finished.

You've taken your status as a mod, and abused it, imo.

The problem with these systems is they're out dated, and just not going to play anything with a great performance. You can buy brand new components for £400-500 (you CAN go cheaper, I just don't advise it for the games you listed) and have full warranty and a much MUCH better performing system that has an upgrade path (due to the latest components not old ones).

I'm not prepared to discuss this any further in this thread as it is now going off topic. You offered to put a system together for him and said "If you're interested let me know", which is asking him to contact you if he was interested. If I am mistaken and you were offering to build a system for free (although your wording was "I can put together a system for you, for cheaper ") then I apologise. I can only react to what you posted in the thread. If you wish to discuss this further please contact Admin.

Totally agreed. I thought mod was talking about the electrician. It seems half the messages have been removed, even my last one was removed n I have no clue why. Well good luck with the pc

    have I broken the rules?

I don't think it was you being chastised - the offending post has been removed and it's left the thread looking a bit odd.
    Edited by: "Cakeboy79" 3rd Mar

Yes, thread seems a little odd as various posts have been removed....

So from what it now reads it seems clear to me GrassSnakeUK was thanking everyone for their help on this great community and merely offering his help/advice (free)..... obviously had to say his field of expertise...

    Hats off to you GrassSnakeUk.

ritchiedrama made it clear no financial gain so again, hats off to you too.

The MOD has apologised.... shame posts were deleted....

    So happy days

(p.s. hope I'm not outspoken or breaking any rules. ...)

I've never built a PC and wouldn't know where to start. ... I'm a console gamer and that suits me fine.

Hope you get a decent PC set up - personally I'd go down the route ritchiedrama suggests. ...

    Good luck GrassSnakeUK

    OK then,
I'm going to have a look at building one as a joint father and son project.
if memory serves me from my pc days I'm going to need:
    a case
    a power supply
    a mother board
    memory
    graphics card
    keyboard
    mouse
    monitor
    os

budget v performance bearing in mind games he wishes to play...could this be done for 500?
