Gaming PC builders out there...

Posted 2nd Mar
So my 15 yeah old nephew is asking me to help him build a gaming PC. The last time I built a PC was easily 10 years ago and that was a media centre type effort. So let’s say I’m not up to date with specs.

He has a budget of around £400 - £450 for the PC and has also sent me this link to see what I think...

Can anyone give advice on the above video or have suggestions for a build that would fall around the £400 - £450 budget?

Many thanks in advance

I know it is over budget, but only thing you could consider downgrade is motherboard, which personally would be reluctant to get cheap H310 board with 2 RAM slot. It would reduce your upgrade ability in future.

Alternatively, you could search for second hand GPU. I have seen used RX580 8GB selling around £110.

You’ve all forgotten to factor in the cost of an operating system.

Thanks Sarden, a huge help!

Looking in all this stuff really takes me back.

Out of the three graphics card suggestions, I'm guessing it's solely down to budget which one to get? I'll probably pick up the Sapphire RX 580, 8GB

39% more cash for 50% more cores and 200% more threads.

Quad core really suffers nowadays on modern games, I would avoid it if you can afford the extra £26.

I'm looking to buy the above spec put together by @sarden84 and order ready for the weekend. Unfortunately, the RAM is not available for 2-3 days for delivery.

Does anyone have an alternative for the Patriot Viper 8GB that was sugguested? I suppose failing that, I can always buy from Amazon for a few pounds extra.
Dual channel of RAM work faster.
I personally won't choose motherboard with 2 RAM slot.

Same spec on Amazon and a couple quid cheaper.

AMD really is the value king and I wouldn't look at a quad core in 2020. The minimum now really should be 6 cores 12 threads like the Ryzen 5 1600 AF. Anything less and it's going to become a bottleneck pretty quickly

Amd can be upgraded for longer as the chips are the same. Intel always changes theirs
