Why would you not want to build your own?

You probably don't want to build your own because you think it's hard but there are loads of very informative videos on YouTube that you can follow. Also, if you build it, you will get a lot more for your money that you would if you were to buy a pre built one.

wouldn't know where to begin and would be terrified of messing it up as it's a Christmas present for my son

maybe contact a friend thats more techy, that can build it for you..?

either way, if say you go to pcworld, a £899.99 pc would cost you maybe £800 online, and £700 to build.

theres various website that build custom pcs, these end up costing £40-75 mor than if you built yourself, but cheaper and more suited than most stores.

What sort of games does he play?

You are definitely better off building it your self, will be a good experience too

It's always worth having a look at PCSpecialist or some other website that sells custom made PC

assassins creed, simply, prison architect, origin etc.

also when your buying, dont get fixated on needing a 'gaming' pc, they usually just hike up the price.

most desktops van become a gaming pc with adding a good graphics card.

basic specs you'll need

1080p monitor, 60fps.
8gb ram,
quad core processor,
ssd hard drive for Windows and main games,
1tb hhd for storage
keyboard and mouse, these should be a decent make rather than a standard £10 pair.

Where are you from OP?

Except that at least 90% of non gaming desktop PCs have a PSU that would need upgrading to add that graphics card therefore negating the benefits. Considering OP is clueless about what to get and they do not feel confidant to build the PC, it seems rather silly to suggest this route considering the potential pitfalls.

@OP - If you are not comfortable building a PC, then it's worth looking to see if there is a technology/PC building/fixing group in your area, often these people will be more than happy to help you through the build process (often the price of a cup of tea and some biscuits). You'll come away more clear how a computer works, with a nice achievement of having built the machine and importantly saved money in the process.

I have bought a reddragon centrophorus keyboard and mouse. is this OK? was on offer so don't mind buying a better one.

There's a easy halfway between "building" and "having Built" - e.g. buy a half decent standard PC (e.g. probably an i5 is sufficient), then stuff the best graphics card you find with the spare from your budget in - fitting a new video card is extremely simple. Undo a couple of screws to open the case, and the card is locked into place with another screw. Simples!

yeah, adding a good graphics card will make more difference than a pc named a "gaming pc"
most faming pc's off the shelf are low capacity and speed ram, old graphics cards and and cool coloured and lit case

also windows 10,
if you include it in a build its +£40-100 usually home as when you can buy the professional version key online for £15 and just download and install. (pretty easy step by steps on the install like a hours work)

looks ok stat wise, dpi on the mouse a little low for my tastes, but plenty suitable.
certainly not worth getting new ones until you see how they suit

best graphics card? and is there a specific monitor or will any one do.

definitely don't buy off gumtree in belfast, they are very rarely worth anywhere near what they're asking, I keep an eye on them every now and again.

oh I won't most are gangsters anyways.

if I were to buy prebuilt i'd go freshtech (usually need to add os and wifi) or pcspecialist. i5 6600k with a 1060 or 1070, ssd a must. consider rx480 if you want a freesync monitor rather than g-sync, g-sync very expensive

best graphics card for your budget, id say a intwl 9** series or intel gtx 1060 (£210)or a amd R7 series or amd RX 4** series,
most newer games require 3gb+ video ram, so these models probs be best.

there's similar performance graphics cards at similar prices but generally older, use more power, and use the older versions of direct X

monitors min specs should be 1080p
and 60hertz.
most gaming rigs are 144mz and 1440p screen.
I personally have a 1080p asus
(here)

but yes any monitor would do, as long as a suitable size to what youd prefer and low response time.

not bad prices on here.. but id still get windows 10 pro separate rather than pre-installed, (no bloatware added too)

try ebay u should get a decent built one even a c ustom one for a good price thing is a lot of people are saying if u build it yourself it will be a a lot cheaper I doubt it as market places like ebay have sellers who buy the stuff in bulk and as you lot already are saying it's easy to build ur own so these people don't charge much to put it together or get a used one I just missed out on one with 16gb ram on ebay custom built used went for under 60 quid
