Approx £1000 budget for a PC tower. My son seems set on the GTX 1070, so I'd be grateful to know if an i5 processor would be sufficient to run it please. I've searched on pcspecialist and ebuyer so far, any other retailer recommendations please?

Are you after something prebuilt? or would you be happy to configure it yourself?(choose what you want and they build it for you)

try the likes of scan or as nathan said, go for self build if you feel happy to do that. something like this and even mess with the case to suit you and cooling as well then whatever graphics you are aiming for:

A current or Previous gen i5 will do just fine for pretty much all your gaming needs. I'd only consider an i7 if it'll be used for video processing or rendering. Apart from that make sure you get a large SSD (forget HDD) and DDR4 RAM too.

Go for it! Take this golden opportunity to learn! Not only do you discover, you can save money too! The process shouldn't take more than a few hours, as long as you have all the components. If you look on overclockers.co.uk they have a wide range of stock, well laid out menus and have live chat service. They may not always offer the best prices but they're always willing to offer great advise. 1070 will be roughly £400 of your £1,000 budget. overclockers.co.uk/zot…tml 5 year warranty on these.

I bought a Fierce one from Amazon a while back that was impressive. They have a new model on there at the moment that may be worth looking at. Just be careful as they do Non-OS deal like the one below ....as Gamers are fussy ****.

Try over clockers overclockers.co.uk/pc-…-pc and Scan 3XS scan.co.uk/3xs…/pc configurators before going with Novatech. I've never had issues with these guys but had problems with custom novatech kit in the past (not used them for a couple of years though)

That is a terrible deal.

i5 is fine for everything, It can do everything an i7 can do, just abit slower and it won't make a perceivable difference in games except frame rate which if you are looking at a 1070 will be much higher than matters anyway. I would definitely go i5 so the saved money can go towards the the rest of the PC.

I would recommend looking for a deal, seems people have posted all the best sites, though the best deals float from site to site and no one webpage has the best value for money or lineup unfortunately.

Edit, no one mentioned AWD-IT.

I would tweak this pc abit anyway, make the primary drive a SSD, add a 1tb Seagate secondary, up the RAM to 16gb add the cheapest non stock cooler and the internal WiFi card I'd you need it, should still be sub 1k. Pretty good for a pre built and definitely gives you an idea of the possibilities for the money.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Dinopc and freshtech look good too. Lots to think about cheers

I built a pc with gtx 1070, i7 6700kcpu 16gb ddr4 1tb sata 3 and a 120 ssd for £1048 only a few weeks ago using new parts on ebay and the gtx off amazon through this site. It's a beast of a computer. Good luck.
