    Gammon joint for christmas dinner - any recipes?

    I have a couple M&S gammon joints in freezer (from the 3 for £10 deal)

    Moving house in 2 weeks so looking to clear out freezer!

    Not fussed about turkey so will do the gammon.

    Had a look online for recipes/inspiration, came across the Nigella cola recipe so thinking of trying that.

    Any ideas?

    Its 5 adults and 2 toddlers in total. Think they are 750g joints, so was going to do both - any leftovers can be used on sandwiches next day!

    I will do roast potatoes/carrots/parsnips/sprouts too.

    Do I need gravy?

    Mum did the Coke recipe a couple of years ago, and despite my doubts I recall it was decent enough. My missus and various other clan members thought so too, so I'd suggest giving it a go.

    Cover on honey and leave in oven! Nice hot and cold!

    I just boil mine with celery, carrot, bay leaf, garlic and onions.

    When water comes to boil, drain in and replace so not too salty.

    Then either the next day or same day, cut skin off, honey and mustard glaze and roast til piping hot.however, I just like it boiled

    the coke recipe is a waste of time. just keep it simple!

    The coke recipe is amazing. I don't have a slow cooker so just cover it with coke in a pot on the hob and simmer it for a few hours. Then I take it out cut the skin off, score the surface and glaze with honey. Stick it in the oven for the last half hour and save some of the coke in the pot to make gravy. Its lovely and tender.

    I just roast mine with a bit of water in the bottom of the tray .. always turn out lovely .. don't fancy coke in food it's bad enough drinking it .. too much sugar :-(

    the sugar caramelises giving it a lovely crust and sweet, but not overly so, flavour. my mum used to do it with chicken. it's surprisingly nice, and honestly, you are only getting a coating of the coke, not drinking a can of it. same as putting two sugars in your tea!

    Just yesterday we had this for the first time and it was delicious - 1.5kg gammon boiled for 1 hour 30min then trimmed the fat off and criss crossed the joint and studded with whole cloves. Covered it in a glaze of (3 tbsp. honey, 1tsp cinnamon, zest and juice of 1 clementine), baked for 45 min at gas 6, was very Christmassy and found it didn't need a gravy

    Just posting to add to the Nigella coca cola recommendations. Its by far the nicest way we have had ham. The bit at the end makes it delicious. People that have never tried it have no place to comment. I dont actually drink coke.

    Yes, of course you do, it being a public forum. However, to post on one about something that youve never actually tried, yet criticising it, doesnt really make sense. However, knock yourself out if you really want to

    Followed the Nigella cola recipe for the gammon and it was absolutely fantastic! Best gammon/ham we had tasted - and my guests said it was delicious too!
