    Gas BBQ's and lava rocks?

Hello everyone, bit confused about lava rocks! Was looking to get the wilkinsons gas bbq that was on here earlier but having had a gas bbq before that was rubbish 'cause it had no lava rocks i was wondering whether this can take them or maybe they all can take them? I dont even know where you're supposed to put them? The burner on my old one was quite high up so where would you put lava rocks???
Any help would be great, many thanks

how do u get lava rocks without the volcano burning you?

Most gas bbq's come with some form of flavorizer bars which eliminate the need for lava rocks.

Basically, the lava rocks are heated up by the flames much like the charcoal on a natural BBQ would. They are a happy medium between the natural charcoal and gas BBQ's, as you could also throw on some scented wood chips on top of the lava rocks for the more authentic smoke flavour.

You can buy lava rocks quite in most decent DIY stores, and are the same kind of size as charcoal pieces normally. You just have to place them under the grill much the same as charcoal, making sure that the flames aren't too restricted that come out of the heating bars.

    I hope this helps.

I think this is the ops problem. A lot of gas barbecues have the heating element pretty high, so it's not going to heat the rocks making them pretty pointless.

I was a bit confused when we bought our new bbq and it didnt have lava rocks. Plus side is it is easier to clean after each bbq with soapy water. Down side is they dont cook as well and the food doesn't taste of bbq.
