Gas cooker installation HEEEELLLLLLLLP !

Found 23rd Jan 2010
I need to buy an FSD compliant gas cooker and would like to have it installed immediately as well but it seems that so far only argos and comet offer installation and delivery. Any ideas on how else I can get it installed as argos charges £100 for installation and comet £70.
Thanks !

You could ask a local engineer but to be honest you're not going to get it much cheaper.
To be honest I think you'd be paying nearly that if you got somebody independant. They have to by law be gas safe registered and issue a gas safe certificate (which in itself is normally around the £12 mark to provide). British Gas quoted my Mum £200!

It does seem daft considering it's precious little work really but then again they do have pay out thousands to be gas safe registered yearly (?)
£200, OMG ! Thanks for you help .
Don't you have a friend, or a friend of a friend that is Gas Safe registered.

My friend would charge about £35 to do this.
if it's your own cooker you can install it yourself if you want

if it's got the bayonet fitting it's dead simple to do.
Just plug it in ?
It is definately worth asking your friends like The Saint mentions. Most ppl know of someone.

Nothing like mates' rates I asked around at school and turned out one of my daughters' friend's Dad was gas safe registered and I got it done cheap (with certificate).

Even if you own your home. If you go to sell and leave cooker (is it built in ?) you will need to provide this certificate. If you rent from council etc they will require this certificate.

Problem with that approach is that the existing pipework may be fine but if the new cooker has a leak................

If installed by a professional they should check the cooker/oven has no leaks.
I'm pretty sure it should cost between £45-£75.... ring a local gas safe registered engineer and for goodness sake don't do it yourself as that's illegal!
It depends if you already have the pipework in place or a gas pipe needs to be run to the cooker point.

If it's in place it really is a half hour job at the most so you won't be getting charged anywhere near £200
My dad fitted ours, have had 3 gas safety checks since & had no problems. Even told him my dad fitted it
Do you already have a gas cooker in where this new one is going to go?
If the gas mains are to where you need them to be and it's a case of take out the old and put in the new then you should find a local engineer who will charge less than argos and comet.
What area are you in?
I am rubbish at assembling flat pack furniture so doing it myself is definitely not an option. Looks like I'll just have to go with the comet option at least its £30 cheaper than argos. Thanks for all your comments !

no its a newly renovated property so no gas cooker in but it does have a gas inspection certificate. I'm in east london
We paid £30 to get our gas cooker fitted by a Corgi registered independant business.

that would be last year or b4 corgi no longer exist

yes it does

well then as i said it's a simple job, which should take around half an hour or so, you should be able to find someone to do it for £40 - £60.

I was a gas fitter for ten years and i would have charged around £40 to do it
I'm fairly sure you will find someone who can do this for a better price than argos & comet, although being in London I know that quite often prices for these services can be high! Try ringing a few

you may come accross someone.
