    Good luck readers

I wonder if 'Strategist George' is playing the long game. Knows it will be many years before even a chance of becoming PM becomes available. In the meantime, add to his inherited fortune via fund management advice to Blackrock and lucrative after-dinner speaking engagements. At the same time, as editor of the Evening Standard he can soften up and manipulate the London electorate for 3 years before a run at London Mayor. Then be ready as a proven leader to step up and lead the Conservatives in 10 years once the tenure of Theresa May (and maybe a successor) has come to an end. He will still only be 55 in 10 years time - not a bad life, is it? Credit to him, his well-crafted plan to succeed Cameron before 2020 hit unexpected buffers, but he has dusted himself down and come up with a new strategy.

He did a great job a doubleing the national debt and nearly missing all his economic targets and despite his failure as Chancellor which he was never qualified to do in the first place, he gets yet anouther job while being a mp. mp's should only have one job as being a mp.

Makes you sick to your stumach really doesn't it

surely massive conflict of interests here.

Apparently personally he's every bit the **** you might imagine too.

intelligence and success always makes some squirm with envy. good luck to him.

    GREED!.

MPs should only be able to have one job which is to help run the country.

hope he pays all the tax he is supposed to . but i think this shows the they should be paid by the hours they are there as it seems unfair when he gets the same money as them that give the job their all

No way that he can do editor's job, at most a columnist, he hasn't even got journalism experience. That's a lot of work to be editor. Moreover there is Blackrock and MP. There are people investing their futures here. It is a "Steve Bannon" "job", he ain't doing the editor's job, he's "Companions of Honour " on a strategic mission to do something with some people (well hidden).

I do see your point however only some MP's 'run the country' and most of that is done by civil servants
they do all however have three other jobs attending and voting parliament
    looking after their constituents interests and 'being a politician';

never mind the conflict of interest
no way they should be doing things like this as well

shame for his constituents, I wonder if they will vote for him in the next election.

Not sure what the fuss is. It's not as if he is editing a serious newspaper. ES is more like a campus newsletter filled with ads and it doesn't require his services 9 to 5.

Well at least its a profession that doesnt involve maths & counting on fingers.

He should be better at his new job.

Can't wait to read 'dear Dave' X)

according to Maajid Nawaz today, one speculation is George Osbourne is position in London Evening Standard to challenge Sadiq Khan for Mayor of London in 2020 (7 May 2020), plus general election is 2020 (same day, Thursday 7 May 2020) too.
    .
So Conservatives are strategically to position themselves (they are virtually out of Scotland) for England plus London, namely total absolute control (especially if they have House of Lords too and by then EU is out of control), leaving USA to do the military control.

It is a very busy job, when Sarah Sands was there.

.. he is paving his way to become leader of the Torys, see my #20 comment. Look at the rivalry between Osborne and Johnson pre brexit, then look at who is natural successor to May now and in two years to come...things are developing...so these guys are positioning themselves.

    Don't think it's from a movie, think it's perhaps a wildlife documentary.

Just used it as it seems to accurately portray politicians (imo at least) only concerned with stuffing their own faces - and definitely not sharing. oO X)

Osborne may have shot himself in the foot there
Sadiq can now cry 'fake news' if he likes

    Osborne as London mayor=no chance.

A bi-election here by no means a given for the Tories
petition on 184k Cheshire voted 54% Remain
