Gerrard to get away with showing the V to referee??

Is Gerrard going to get away with showing the V sign to referee Andre Marriner at last nights game? I hope not!

Pic and link in first post.

Who cares, personally I'm sick and tired of the media picking up on every minute detail and doing it to death, it's hardly crime of the year is it?

they are always swearing at the refs though arent they, for example F off is always easy to read on players lips and surely the refs can hear it, it happens a lot, not meaning offence but just an expression of annoyance

This paper is desperate for a story

Gerrard does some stupid things, but I don't think it was mean't as a V sign tbh.... I can't see anyone would do something so blatant in full view of the ref. To me, he was indicating that it was only his second foul.

If it was meant as a V though, then yes, he should be punished.

    Daily Mail... Really... :w00t::w00t::w00t:

I think he was telling the ref how many more months he has to suffer this carp.

i saw it as it happened, it was actually aimed at the linesman and was intentional, you could tell with what he said at the time lol

the refs get a lot worse said to them during every game they ref

He's vice-captain for England though, so the papers will always make a story out of it.

Rooney is always doing that, but lip reading (however obvious it is as to what they are saying) what he is saying can be covered up, unlike a hand gesture (although in this case I think it was to do with two fouls).

    wow news is great

That could be anything, he could be saying 2, he could be reaching up to point to his eyes.

I hate gerrard and liverpool, but i must admit its good to see he got nothing for that rubbish

Don't forget the World Cup too

dont the V's actually mean victory and over time its just turned into a way of saying f off, tbh if it was the middle finger I would see that as being more offensive

Do you really need an explanation?

Is this hypocrite at it again...

whats he going to write in his next book....how he hates footballers who swear on the pitch???

    yes

Looking at the photo it doesnt look like a V sign to me. If it was he should be done. I help run a boys football team and at only 13 some of the kids in the League are awful swearing at the opposition parents and referee. Sadly although the ref may speak to the same boy a few times I have never seen a child sent off either for nasty tackle or bad language. The boys know this and some constantly do not change their ways. If you have the right manager he should bring the child off but sadly the managers dont either. Hence the dirtier teams usual win, not necessarily the best footballing side. The kids do and will copy what the see on the tv. At such high wages the players whilst i appreciate they are human must be made to understand this.
Blimey i only logged on to see if there were any bargains...rant of the day done. i can relax now.

To those people who think he was saying second foul, check out a replay of it if you can, he clearly says f off as he does it, I hope he gets done for it and yes I am a man utd fan.

its good to have a good rant now and again. lol

He was saying it was his second foul. Pretty obvious to anyone who watches football.

I thought the V sign from from when the french used too cut those two fingers off the English bowman, and the bowman used to give them the V sign as to say "hahaha i still got my fingers"

So you'd be equally happy with Rooney being "done for it" when he gives his barrage of abuse to EVERY REF in EVERY GAME.

thats different, players sware on the pitch all the time,

but if Rooney put his two fingers up at the ref in front of the cameras and he got done for it I would have no complaints, end of the day it's just stupid when you know the whole world is watching.

So you think telling the ref he's a blind f-ing c is not as bad as sticking up two fingers? Just wow!

Gerrard can easily defend it by suggesting he was saying twice.

its not different though is it, it is the same meaning just a different gesture

I never said its not as bad, but if all players got banned for telling the referee to f off then we wouldnt have any players left to play on the weekend. Remember the respect the ref campaign? that didnt work did it?

all im saying is that he did something he shouldnt of done and he might and prob should be punished for it.

theres no point punishing him for it if your not gona take a consistent line with these things, swearing at the ref is the same thing and it would be the players fault if there were no players left on the pitch, I bet if the refs took a strong approach to it and sent players off say this weekend for swearing at them you could guarantee that nobody would be swearing at them next week

It actually started in the hundred years war, as an English archer's taunt to French soldiers, as the French used to cut off the fingers of the English if they were caught, so as they couldn't fire a bow again. It doesn't mean **** off at all really.

If you see the actual video of this it was a blatant v sign made. He clearly told the ref to **** off as well. As for todays elbow, I dont think he'll get banned. Rules state that if the referee saw the incident, then further action can't be made, and the ref gave a free kick so he must have seen it...

Latest news is that he escapes any punishment. Shocking really that he can do something like that and get away with it.
