Get Amazon products for price BEFORE VAT increase

Not sure how long this will last or if it works with everything but worth a shot.

If you go onto an item you will see the new price of the product. For instance, I was looking at a product. Yesterday it was £140, today it is now £160.

If you click on the New & Used bit, Amazon UK will show in this list, however the price doesn't include the new rise in prices. So buy it from this list.

I have just bought a product that was £140 but is now £160. I went on the New & Used list and bought it till was and saved myself £20!

This looks like a bit of a hit or miss and depends on the product.

Hope you don't get a nasty shock!
Guess if you do, though, you could just return it at Amazon's expense anyway.

VAT increase wouldn't effect Amazon since they are offshore based??

That is a good point. However I feel they might be cashing in on this as the prices for everything have risen to accommodate these increases in VAT. Was looking at Shutter Island Blu-Ray. I paid £10.06 for it and its is now £10.58

thats a big 2.5% rise!

I know. They were £144 when I checked at 9am this morning. Just looked after dinner and they are £160...

Even so, the New & Used price still shows £140

... and the rise is 2.5% of the before VAT price, so only 2.13% needs to be added to the "with 17.5% VAT" price.

Amazon aren't offshore based though. Unless they ship something from their "partner" (Indigostarfish in Jersey) then anything that isn't exempt from VAT will have it included in the price.

Wont buying things from Amazon.de circumvent the VAT rise?

I don't think that's an issue anyway as Jersey is presumably still in the EU. That £18 duty threshold only applies to items being imported from outside the EU... as I understand it.

Jersey isn't part of the EU.
Hence the tax loophole.
