Getting a new mobile number (02 Upgrade)

I wish to get a new mobile number because I sometimes get unwanted calls at that number. However, when I upgraded my phone yesterday with O2, they would not let me get a new number. The O2 person said since I'm upgrading, I need to keep that old number. I'm wondering if anyone else tried to get a new number when upgrading or are you also forced to stay with the same number?

But can you transfer a contract onto that sim?

If you requested the new number before you signed up to the new contract then its within your entitlement.

Although = If its the same number, 02 can block it

ah sorry didnt realise it was a contract number

It was just weird that I cannot get a new number if upgrading a phone. So just want to hear some opinions to see if its true or not.

get a free sim for a different provder, then get a PAC code and transfer the number onto your contract by contacting O2 with the PAC code

You cannot take new number at time of upgrade because your then not upgrading. What you need to do is either:

1. Take the upgrade, then call customer services stating you are recieving nuisance calls, you will get a new number.

2. Or disconnect current number then take out new contract with new number.

Best off taking option 1.
