Getting a wing mirror sprayed

Found 15th Jan 2011
Hi,

I need to get a new wing mirror, I have found them on ebay for £20, but they come unsprayed, obviously Going to need it sprayed. The wing mirror is for a Focus Mk1

I don't want to get taken on getting this done, and just wondering if anyone has done this before and the cheapest place/way of getting this done. Failing that I would have to get two black ones.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Problem is its not black, silver or white. Its blue and its a rare type of blue. I have been looking nearly everyday for the last 6 weeks and still haven't seen one.
If paying for it to be done then it would be cheaper buying two black at £20 each, should be an easy diy spray job, look on youtube for guides, the key is in the preperation, get good prep for a good finish, allow each coat to dry fully and you will be golden, mask off nicely and instead of stopping at the edge of the mirror carry on past it to avoid finish lines, best to go for many lighter coats too, dont be tempted to spray more as it looks blemished, if will fill in evenly over several coats, each one should be little more than a mist.

Are you looking for just the mirror or searching for other parts listed in the same colour where the seller says he has the rest of the car breaking.

Ok, I'm sure I could spray myself. where do I get the spray from? Sorry if it seems an obvious question but maybe you know a good priced place to get it from. Thanks

Ford dealer....that way you get exactly the right colour....or Halfords, which will be cheaper but no guarantee it'll be a perfect match.

Lots of parts sellers just list the odd part, bumper, door ect and then say they have thew rest of the car, ring for details, so to avoid ebay fees and listing every part.
when u do get round to spraying ur new mirror search online for tips
less is more, spray small amounts in even coats
allow to dry in-between leave near a radiator is a good idea
finely sand in between coats

coat your mouth and nose and use plenty of newspaper

apply lacquer

oh yeah an be carefull where u park

How you doin'.

I'm cool, but apparently my blue car is green! now I'm thinking the worst.

Log book and everything else seems in order and I know where the person I bought it off lives.

Very strange

It says I have a blue Focus Zeetec. But when I enter on the ford page linked to on page 1 it says my car is "Jewel Green".

Doesn't matter, I've had it 6 months now and not been pulled over, or had any letters.

So just going to get mirror done

I wouldn't worry what it says in the logbook etc, i've had my car since brand new and my logbook says it's silver when it's actually matallic light blue.

Ok, cheers. Puts my mind at rest a bit. Now for finding my mirror
Couldn't you just change them both to black. Some idiot smashed our wing mirror new years day and the black one looks fine.
Make sure you dont spray over the mirror part and youll be fine
Make sure that you do not try to spray any paint when it is damp or cold.

Well, That is one of the options I am considering if it is to expensive to paint one the same colour.
