its only £129 if theres engineering required.

if there is a deactivated line to the property, its free - but theres a 12 month contract with bt regardless.

Isn't it £29.99 at the moment without BT broadband or free with?

£29.99 line rental offer details (requires 18 month contract)

Line Connection Charge for £29.99 Deal – 18 month minimum term.
Customers taking this deal will benefit from a £98 discount on the standard line connection charge of £127.99. Available to eligible new and existing customers agreeing to an 18 month contract on the Unlimited Weekend Plan (£13.29 per month), the Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan (£16.28 per month) or the Unlimited Anytime Plan (£18.28 per month). Monthly Call Plan prices quoted include line rental charges (currently £13.29) and are with payment by Direct Debit. Otherwise add £1.50 per month for payment processing fee levied by BT Payment Services Limited, a BT Group company. Discount is via bill credit, which will be applied to your next or subsequent bill. Minimum call commitment applies – you must make at least 10 chargeable or inclusive calls per month (30 calls per quarter). You'll need to pay a charge of £5.15 for every month (if you are billed monthly) or £15.45 for every quarter (if you're billed quarterly) in which you don't make these calls, as compensation for not making the minimum number of calls required. These charges are not subject to VAT and will appear in the one-off charges section of your bill. This deal can only be taken up once during the initial contract period. If you decide to end your contract within the minimum term, you will incur a single charge of £2.50 (on the Unlimited Weekend Plan), £3.00 (on the Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan) or £5.50 (on the Unlimited Anytime Plan) for each month left of the minimum term. Within the minimum term, you may upgrade your Calling Plan, but you cannot downgrade your calling plan except where you are eligible for, and are moving to BT Basic. Other exclusions and conditions apply. Excludes customers benefiting from some special offers or deals.

I signed up to sky, then contacted bt about getting connected, when they told me how much it was going to be i rang up sky to cancel, sky offered to pay for the connection. They asked me to send in the bill which i did, then after a while i contacted them to find out wht was happening, they they changed it from knocking the amount off my bill to sending me vouchers, i waited and waited nothing happened, contacted them again, suddenly they had no knowledge of this deal, but agreed they would look into it but i would need to send them my bill, which obviously i couldnt do as i'd already sent it in!

If you've got a BT kiosk in your town centre go and see them, they are pretty flexible with offers

Was free when I went with sky.

Ill be so glad to finally leave BT. We took the "waved" connection charge and they've been taking £21.50 out my account every month and refuse to lower it. We are now £100 in credit after 18 months. Finally leaving BT and will attempt to get my money back.

Why didn't you just come off the monthly payment plan? Whole bill direct debit is whats needed.

I asked them to do this. BT plain refused to help me. Probably because I wasnt spending any money with them.

Hang on, i think its in the T&Cs of the connection charge offer that you have to pay by that method only.

Don't know if its a different connection fee when you just move to bt than if its a brand new line. When we moved into our house (a new build) they made us pay £75 for connecting it up to the exchange and mentioned at the time the price going up. If this is the case dont know if you can get around paying for it.

Last Flat we moved into had a disconnected/deactivated line and was reconnected free, plug in a phone and it should still have a dial tone = Free.
Just ring them up to get it sorted and they should find the address on their system and it will be done remotely, you can get the sales person to confirm it's free.
I struggled because the flat wasn't properly addressed on the system, 3 sales/customer agents told me I'd have to pay despite me insisting there was a dial tone and could provide the previous number, the 4th used the number to identify the flat and Bingo!
